While I enjoy the summer months and all the glorious joy that they bring, August is fast approaching. It is bittersweet to me.
My Grandmother, who lived to be 101, had passed away in August, 7 years ago. My, how time flies. My Grandmother was truly remarkable, and had lived on her own until she was 96, at which time I became her Conservator.
It was a difficult time for me, as I belonged to what is considered the “Sandwich Generation” ~ where you’re caught up raising your own children and family needs, while taking care of ailing parents or grandparents.
The Alzheimer’s Memory Walk® is the nation’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer care, support and research – and it calls on volunteers of all ages to become champions in the fight against Alzheimer’s. There are walks in more than 600 communities. A typical Memory Walk is a 2-3 mile walk held on a weekend morning in the fall.
If you have a family member or close family friend in a similar situation, please consider becoming a Team Captain for this worthwhile cause.
By teaming up with the Alzheimer’s Association, you can walk with a purpose – and move us closer to a world without Alzheimer’s. Together, we can MOVE a nation.
