Grandma D’s Tree and Wreath Farm ~ Wreaths Direct ~ A Review and Contest

As a lifelong native of New England, I have to say that the start of the Holiday Season between Thanksgiving and New Years is my favorite time of the year. Winter conjures up visions of horse-drawn sleigh rides, hot toddy’s by the fireside, ice skating on glistening frozen winter ponds, and building snowmen.

My husband I started a long-standing tradition when we first married and always cut down our own Christmas trees at local Christmas tree farms. The tradition continued until our children went off to college. The wreath that usually adorns our front door is always a live wreath, which we get from either the tree farm or a quality nursery. A spotlight that’s placed by the white birch tree in the center of our yard shines upon the door and house. Our home is a two-story colonial, and all of the windows are adorned with live green roping and red ribbons.  Single candles shine through every window.  Our style is very traditional and simple to celebrate the season, a scene right of Normal Rockwell.

Recently I was contacted by Grandma D’s Tree and Wreath Farm/Wreaths Direct and offered the opportunity to review a holiday wreath from Oregon! I have friends who’ve been to Oregon and rave about how spectacular the northwest corner of our country is!

Grandma D’s Tree and Wreath Farm has been raising Christmas trees and making wreaths for five generations. This family-owned business sells beautiful noble fir wreaths, centerpieces, and trees.

Grandma D’s Tree and Wreath Farm is located in the Silverton Hills southeast of Salem, Oregon, adjacent to Silver Falls State Park near Silverton, Oregon. In the early 1920’s, the De Santis family began purchasing farm land. This land was first used to plant and harvest strawberries. By the 1960’s, the strawberry crops were phased out, while Noble and Douglas Christmas Trees were gradually planted. By 1990, the Rutherford family, descendants of the De Santis family, managed the tree farm.

I was at my office when the wreath arrived via UPS, and my husband immediately called me to let me know it had arrived!

The holiday fragrance of this beautiful eco-friendly fresh wreath was still evident throughout the house when I arrived home! The wreath was packaged in a very sturdy corrugated box, and arrived from Oregon unscathed!

Adorned with a red-velvet ribbon, berries and pine cones, the quality and care taken to make this beauty was evident by the hard-wired backing that one normally only sees on high-quality wreaths.

Grandma D’s Tree and Wreath Farm/Wreaths Direct also offers stunning Holiday Table and Centerpieces as well as wreaths. Their fresh greenery ships throughout the USA and is a versatile gift that is pleasing to men, women, employees and all family types! Items include fresh holidays wreaths (also available with gold or silver accents), candy cane wreaths and centerpieces with a free taper candle.

Visit Grandma D’s Tree and Wreath Farm at http://www.wreathsdirect.info/ for more info.  Mention Code W0834 when ordering and you will receive FREE UPS Ground Shipping in the USA.

Clorox 2 Stain Fighter & Color Booster ~ A Review and Contest

Have you ever calculated about how many loads of laundry you’ll do in your lifetime? The thought is mind-boggling.

When I was first married over 30 years ago, it was just the Hubs and I. The only issue was having to run downstairs to the laundry area in the apartment building. Over time, came a house and kids.

I’m probably on my 4th dryer and maybe 3rd washing machine now. Dryers usually get quite a work-out here in New England, as we don’t see too much sunshine in the winter, and drying the clothes outside can get a tad …. Challenging.

For much of my sudsing career, I’ve always used Clorox 2, a non-chlorine bleach . As a mom of various assorted cats, dogs, two children and two grandchildren ~ I’m very experienced in trying to get out all types of stains.

Clorox 2 just launched a new advanced formula that works better on tough stains and keeps clothes bright. I recently had the opportunity to review this new product!

I just add Clorox 2 Stain Fighter & Color Booster to every load with my detergent for cleaner and brighter clothes. I see my grandchildren practically every day, and usually there’s an incident that requires my washer to be running and the little darlings are placed in spare clothes until whatever they wore over is clean again!

In these tough economic times, it pays to be frugal.  It’s always nice to freshen up any childrens clothing that you may plan on reselling or placing on consignment once it’s outgrown.  Clorox 2 is chlorine free and really does the trick.

Give Clorox 2 Stain Fighter & Color Booster a try. Clorox 2 has a money back guarantee and stands behind their products!

Visit Dare To Be Colorful for more information.

Moomettesgram’s Musings is hosting a Giveaway Contest!  For a chance to win one (1) of four (4) coupons for a Free Any 33 oz Liquid Clorox 2 or 49.2 oz Dry Clorox 2 Stain Fighter & Color Booster (Maximum Value $6.00)

Tips on How to Make Your Home Energy and Cost Efficient

Living in New England is so wonderful ~ we get to experience the four seasons. I love especially love Fall and the holidays. When I walk outside the smell of wood-burning stoves waifing through the air greets me on many a cold morning, or early evening.

As a child, besides the return to a new school year, I always enjoyed the special smell in the house the first time the furnace turned on. As an adult and now paying for my own utility bills, I now shudder whenever I hear the click of the gas furnace, signaling that my hard-earned dollars are going up the chimney.

Here’s some tips to help you get through the winter season:

Do you dread looking at your electric or gas bill every month seeing numbers that are larger and larger each time you see it? Do you wish there was something you could do about this dreaded monthly bill? Well, there is and it is easy to remedy. You just have to check your home to make sure that it is the most energy and cost efficient that it can possibly be.

It might be shocking to you that most people do not even know that because of lack of efficiency they are loosing 25 % or more of the energy used in their home.

Did you know that there are some common every day things that you can do to save energy and money around your home. Doing it yourself can save you both time and money that you might invest in someone else’s promises to save you money. I don’t know about you, but I trust myself more than someone else’s empty promise any day. All it takes is a few calculations, some common sense and you can be on the road to savings and increasing your home’s use of energy.

Some of these steps include:

1. Calculating your energy cost. Do you know how much fuel your home is taking to run and how much that cost you? You need to know this before you can determine if you can lower those costs.

2. What will it cost you to save. What things must you put into practice in order to save on your energy monthly? This is where you have to determine the balance.

3. Determine your largest needs. Some practices will save you far greater in the future than others. You must first determine your area of largest need and go from there.

4. Developing new habits. Many of us have habits that cost us energy every day. We must realize those bad habits and begin putting new habits in place in order to save energy, time and money.

These are only a few of the ways that you can begin to save money on your energy bill and have a more cost efficient home. There are many more ways to save and you will love how easy those savings come to you.

Why Business Blogs are a Necessity for a Work-At-Home Mom’s Success

My one-year Blogoversary has recently passed.  To me, it seems as if I’ve been blogging forever.  In fact, it’s difficult to imagine how I operated my websites and online businesses, such as my eBay Store and Shoppes sites without having a blog!

As recently as two years ago, I had read that blogs existed, but didn’t know how to even go about finding one.  Entrecard provided a great opportunity to find blogs from all categories.  I’ve also since become a frequent poster at BlogHer, Kirtsy, Cafe Mom, MommyRanks, The Mom Blogs and Mom Bloggers Club.

Blogs have been around for many years. They started out, in the beginning, as great personal journals for Internet users who wanted to share their daily lives with their family and friends. Now, fast forward through the years to today; where they are now commonly used as business tools as well as private diaries of sorts.

Blogs are basically mini-websites authors use to post information about a specific topic. Some blogs share experiences of an author’s career path, while others provide up to date news concerning the topic their blog presents.

What Makes Blogs Such a Great Tool to a Business Owner?
Blogs can provide so many opportunities for business to reap rewards that no business website should be without one. Here are some of the benefits a blog can provide any business owner:

A blog can drive more targeted traffic to their main site.

Blogs are favorites of search engines.  They provide up to date content on a regular basis, so search engines will find them easier. Blogs can also be linked with other like-minded blogs to allow for more click-through visitors. Social bookmarking sites, social media sites and even message board forums love them as well. People will refer their friends to them when they see something they like.  I enjoy participating in Blog Carnivals where I get to meet other bloggers and see what they’re writing about.  Often you can find banners in sidebar columns ~ there’s usually a Blog Carnival going on somewhere in the blogosphere!

Blogs make it easier to gain return visitors.
If a visitor likes your blog, they’ll keep coming back to see what else you have to say on a specific topic. Business blogs can be linked to the main company site as well. The more times people stop by, the more chances an owner has of getting those visitors to your business site.

Blogs allow one to easily gain expert status amongst a target audience.
The more you blog about your site’s topic, the more you come across as an expert in that field. A visitor can be awed by the information you’re offering them and could look up to you as an expert on a particular subject. Now, the next time they need to buy a certain product or need help with something in that area, they will think of you first.

Blogs are user friendly and inexpensive to boot.

There are blog programs that you can sign up for free or for a very nominal fee. I started out at Blogger, and then transferred Moomettesgram’s Musings over to WordPress and my own domain. Most blogs are easy to set up as they generally walk you through the process step-by-step. There aren’t too many marketing tools that are as easy to use and inexpensive to obtain. This alone makes a blog painless to your business budget.

Business blogs are easier when it comes to upkeep.
Blogs are fun to use, which makes them much easier to maintain. Posting regular tidbits of your chosen topic keeps a blog updated without a lot of hassle. I’ve since gone on and established a blog on my Virtual Assistant website. Updating websites is essential, but can be time consuming and confusing as well.

The biggest benefit business blogs provide is…

Building Rapport with Your Target Audience.
This is, by far, the best benefit you can obtain from a blog. Blogs have comment sections where readers can leave messages for you to let you know they liked what you said in a post or to add their own thoughts on the topic at hand.  I’ve also added Comment Luv to my comments section, thus enabling your most recent blog post to show up, giving you added exposure and links in to your site!  It’s a Win-Win situation for both of us!

You’re building a relationship with your target audience that can help gain trust from them as well as find out what they’re looking for in a product. This is your way to get an inside look at what your customer’s wants and needs are without spending lots of money on marketing surveys and advertisements that don’t work.

Blogs can give your business everything mentioned above and more. Adding a blog to your arsenal of marketing tools is a must do for any online business owner.

Swingset Mamas ~ Dance Around the House ~ A Review

As a mom of  two grown daughters, I must say that each one was as different as night and day when they were growing up. They’re 4 years apart, and when they were little, the age gap made a big difference. They’re much closer now that they’re grown.

My youngest was very much in to music. When it was her bedtime, Pumpkin had a tape-recorder and would listen to her favorite musical tapes until she fell asleep. Oftentimes they were storybook tapes. As she grew older, her love of music manifested itself through dancing. Pumpkin developed an amazing sense of rhythm, and took dancing lessons from the time she was a toddler, until she was a senior in high school. Pumpkin was on the Dance Team in high school and as a freshman in college.

I can recall a group that was extremely popular with children born in the 1980s. When they toured and came to a town nearby, we attended the “concert” in the local high school. It was a jam-packed, fun-filled event that Pumpkin now 21, still remembers.

Recently I was asked to review a new CD/DVD that’s going to be having the kiddie set all in a twitter!

Swingset Mamas (a/k/a  Lizzie and Marlowe)

“kindled their friendship singing into the night over a campfire on the beach in Montauk, NY. Marlowe, a classically trained pianist, and Lizzie, a music therapist and rock musician, connected over a belief in the power of music.”

“…the Mamas’ songs tap into the most fundamental joys and struggles of parents and their children.”

Now ‘Lil Moomette, my granddauaghter, age 2 ~ does not take after her mom in a musical sense, but rather (thankfully,) takes after Auntie. Auntie, I’m pleased to say, takes after…moi. ‘Lil Moomette and I were dancing to the Swingset Mamas’  “All Around the House” (actually, mom was too!) It was too cute to see ‘Lil Moomette shake her tiny little booty!

This delightful CD/DVD would be great for Daycare, Preschool, Homeschooling, or rainy days!

There’s still plenty of time to order the entertaining and educational Swingset Mamas CD/DVDs in time for the Holidays or upcoming Birthday Parties. All orders will ship within 2 days of ordering via 1st class mail.

Gift cards and/or autographed CD’s with a brief message and your child’s name are available for no additional cost!

Visit Swingset Mamas for more information.

Bumkins Finer Baby Products ~ A Review

It’s so much fun to be a grandmom! Like my own mom, my kids were born while I was in my early 30’s, so I always figured it would quite awhile before I became a grandmother. When my oldest daughter and her husband presented me with my first grandchild, ‘Lil Moomete, two years ago, I was delighted.

Imagine my delight when my new grandson Slugger was born this past August! I couldn’t contain myself!

Having a grandson is a little different than having a granddaughter. Being of the female persuasion, I’m used to shopping for frilly things ~for my own girls as well as my nieces. It’s taking a little getting used-to picking out clothing and accessories for the (so-far) male heir to the family dynasty that would be acceptable to his fashionista mama.

I’m delighted to be writing about Bumkins Finer Baby Products.

Bumkins Finer Baby Products was founded by Jakki Liberman in 1989. Initially conceived as a means to provide her own young family with an alternative to disposable diapers, Jakki began the company with a single prototype, the All in One cloth diaper. This inventive design, which rivaled disposables in convenience, became the foundation of Bumkins product offerings.

In 2005 Bumkins became a Dr. Seuss licensee and entered into the world of infant and toddler apparel.

I received the most adorable Dr. Seuss Coverall Seuss Suit to review from Bumkins Finer Baby Products. Dr. Seuss was one of Slugger’s mom’s favorite characters when growing up.

The Coverall is adorned with the whimsical characters Thing One and Thing Two as well as the classic Cat-In-The-Hat stripe print. Seuss logo snaps for easy dressing complete the outfit, which also features adorable back pocket details!

The Dr. Seuss line also features coordinating accessories! Complimenting the outfit I received was a Dr. Seuss Waterproof SuperBib:

* Made of Bumkins’ proprietary waterproof fabric
* Stain and odor resistant
* Adjustable Velcro closure
* Features catch-all pocket
* Machine washable, hang dry
* Measures 10″ across, 9″ from neck down
* Sized to fit 3 months – 2+ years
* PVC, BPA, Phthalate & Vinyl Free
* Made in the USA, with American made fabrics

If you’ll be shopping for a little one this Holiday Season, or looking for a superb children’s line for Baby Showers, Newborns, Birthdays or your own children, visit
Bumkins Finer Baby Products at Bumpkins Finer Baby Products for more information.

Womens Health: What Are You Having For a Healthy Winter Breakfast

If you follow me on Twitter, you probably have seen my tweets that I’m on a diet. After viewing the photos of myself when my grandson Slugger was born in August ~ need I say more?

Since joining Weight Watchers Online and sticking to an approximately 1,000 calorie-per-day diet, I’ve lost about 17 pounds. I’ve set February as the date to reach my goal of an approximate 10 percent body weight loss.

Dining out has proved challenging. I’ve learned through Weight Watchers though, that eating breakfast is very important to any weight-loss plan. Throughout my whole life, I’ve never been a breakfast eater (except Saturdays) until now.

Why is it that we eat more food in the winter? Maybe we decide that it’s okay to have a little more girth to keep us warm. Bears do it so why can’t we? Unfortunately, eating more and moving less doesn’t equal a healthy lifestyle. Stay warm this winter with a few healthy breakfast items on the menu. We can eat and feel full without ruining our diet and adding to our waistline. We’ve worked hard to maintain or lose weight when the weather was warm. We don’t want to ruin it all during the winter chill.

1. Oatmeal – Oatmeal has changed from the pasty gray stuff that was served to us as kids. Now, oatmeal comes in instant flavors like strawberries and cream, maple and brown sugar, and cinnamon and apples. The oats provide soluble and insoluble fiber. Fiber helps to stabilize blood sugar so we don’t overeat during the day. The slow release of energy by our body keeps us going at a steady pace. Oatmeal can be made with water or milk. Using skim milk provides vitamin D as well as fiber.

2. Fruit filled breads – We are always in a hurry. This may mean leaving behind a warm breakfast but not a nutritious one. The same mix recipes that can be used for muffins can be used to make sweet breads like banana nut, cranberry-raisin, and blueberry bread. Fresh or dried fruits can be used in the bread. In combination with other whole grains, the bread is a healthy winter breakfast that can be fixed and eaten fast. I like to make this Nibble Bread recipe and have it on hand to eat.

3. Eggs, cheese, and sausage – A good breakfast is a mixture of protein, carbohydrates, and fats. Eggs provide protein and some fat. Cheese provides the same. It is okay to use low fat cheeses. Fat free cheese doesn’t melt as well. Turkey sausage or bacon provides protein and that meat we so often crave. Weekend mornings are a perfect time for family to enjoy a hearty, healthy warm breakfast. When my husband and I go out for breakfast on Saturday mornings, I’ll have scrambled eggs and salsa ~ almost an omlet, but without the cheese.

4. Unsweetened cereals – Cereal is still a part of a balanced breakfast. This doesn’t change in the winter time. Try a cereal that gets its sweetness from cinnamon or honey. It is better for you and fortified with vitamins and minerals we need every day. Supplement that bowl of cereal with a glass of orange juice or coffee and a slice of wheat toast for a quick and healthy breakfast before work or school. What’s also been working for me is the Special K ~ Lose a Jean Size in 2-weeks. I’ll keep a box of Special K at my cubicle at the office, along with Fat-Free milk in the office refrig to avoid running out for a bagel, or hitting up the vending machine.

During the winter, we naturally eat more food because we crave carbohydrates. It is the hibernation instinct in our bodies. To keep from looking oversized in the spring, continuing to watch what we eat in winter is essential.

Try these breakfast alternatives to do just that. Don’t forget the pure New England maple syrup!

What are you having for breakfast? Share your ideas with me!
