So I’m Not Going To BlogHer – Top 10 Reasons I Am Excited to Stay Home with My Family this Coming Weekend

NotGoingToBlogHer

Maxine Organize

The whole blogosphere and Twitter is abuzz now that BlogHer09 is in full swing.  It seems like anybody and everybody is in the Windy City of Chicago – taking in the views of Lake Michigan; meeting all their online friends; bonding;  forming new friendships; attending seminars;  handing out or receiving Swag, and generally having a grand old time!

Well, I didn’t find a Sponsor in time for this year (color me Green) :-(   so I’ll be trying really hard to find one so I can attend BlogHer10 ~

Cozi LogoFifteen moms will have the opportunity to win $100 sponsorships from Cozi, in conjunction with Mom of 2 Boys, Wife of 1 who is giving away $1500 for moms who couldn’t get to BlogHer this year and are feeling a tad out-of-it.

Make My Day and help me to WIN by leaving a Comment on This Post! :-)

Here’s My Top 10 Reasons Why I’m Not Going to BlogHer

  • 10.  I have to babysit the granddog at my house as daughter & her Hubster are in VT this weekend.
  • 9.  I have to go over to darling daughter’s house to take care of their cat since their cat doesn’t get along with my cat.
  • 8.  I have to feed their fish, too.
  • 7.  I have to feed my cat who’s12 and gets extremely upset if I am not the one who feeds him twice a day.
  • 6. My husband of 35 years gets cranky extremely upset if I don’t feed him at least 3 times a day.
  • 5. Going to BlogHer would mean I’d need a complete makeover – liposuction, haircolor, makeup and more, as I’m a Baby Boomer – can you imagine the stress I’d be under?
  • 4. Going to BlogHer most certainly involves updating my wardrobe – which would possibly involve the purchase of a new bikini bathing suit for the indoor pool – horrors!
  • 3. I’m a little too old to try to dance on the table anymore
  • 2. Staying home is the perfect opportunity to re-fire, organize my chores (see picture above) and add recent events in our lives to my family journal using Cozi’s free family journal.
  • 1.  My husband just surprised me with some shopping spending money – lookout Marshall’s and TJ Maxx, here I come!

Join me at the Not Going to Blogher Party on Stickam Friday night!

Business Cards for Mommy Bloggers: Vista Print – Review

bizcard-copy

Long before I became a blogger I began my online presence by opening an eBay store where I quickly became a Power Seller.  To increase my WAHM online knowledge I joined several eBay and boutique children’s clothing forums and was invited to become a Moderator on one of them.

A bit of advice I picked up along the way was to develop a business card to enclose when I shipped out the ecommerce products I had sold on eBay  and encourage customers to become repeat buyers and also leave me feedback.

I ordered several boxes of business cards from Vista Print.

Now that I author 4 blogs I order business cards with the names of my blogs imprinted on them.  Business cards are a great way to promote your brand if you’re trying to secure sponsorships to blogging conferences such as BlogHer.   It’s always a good idea to carry some to hand out if you’re networking at Chamber of Commerce meetings, church functions or community service functions.

I’m happy to have the opportunity to review not only the Customized Business Cards that Vista print sent, but also the matching Folded Note Cards and customized Address Labels.  They go so well with my blog theme!

Vista Print also offers Free business products as well as customized products for every need to help you promote your brand and grow your business:

  • Rubber Stamps
  • Pens
  • Car Magnets
  • T-Shirts and more!

Even if you don’t blog, Mommy Cards are also very popular to hand out at your local pre-school, playgroup or PTA events!

Given the state of the economy and today’s job market, networking or introduction cards are  a great idea to have on hand to pass out!

Visit Print is offering my readers 25% off of any orders!

Entrecard Terms: My Blog – My Terms

A short note to my Entrecard droppers ~

I will not be accepting paid Entrecard ads and have set my advert settings to “Reject.” I have found that the banner ads coming through often were not reflective of the material that was actually on the sites that they linked to.

Also, I want some control over what types of sites advertise here, as this blog, as well as my other blogs are family oriented.

Please be assured that if you EC drop on any of my blogs and decide to advertise here, that I want your ad to show up 100 percent of the time.

There’s been quite a bit of controversay over the whole new paid ads that you kind find more about here  http://twurl.nl/mfid6a

Additionally, I give “linky luv” to my Top Droppers for the months, listed right on my home page.  I also occasionally do an “Entrecard Find of the Week” post where I try to highlight a blog that I’ve found to be informational and fun.

I now also offer affordable advertising rates if you’d like to be guaranteed of prime real estate visibility on my blog.  Rates are available either monthly or long-term discounts are available.

Thanks for dropping in on me! Let me know if your blog is “Dropper Friendly so I can drop in on you and add your blog to my “Dropper Friendly” list of blogs that I’m compiling. Feel free to grab the “Dropper Friendly” banner!

Prime Real Estate Advertising Spots – Location Location Location

realestate3185860301_966ef0aeaf1

As a WAHM I like to experiment with different techniques to increase my reader base as well as, of course, my earnings.

I posted on Twitter today that I will be rearranging the furniture on my blogs, so to speak.

Tonight I removed, for the most part, all the affiliate advertising from companies other than work-at-home moms.  I like to support those who have helped me the most and whose products I believe in and use myself.

I’m going to cut out the “middle-man” and be offering affordable Advertising Rates to all small businesses and work-at-home moms on my other blogs which are also PR3, including Moomette’s Magnificent Reviews and Mama Mentor.

Whenever I shop, I always seek out the off-the-beaten path small business.  I’m not a fan of mall shopping, and am hoping that many small businesses, Etsy, Ruby Lane and Bonanzle  readers will find my rates affordable.  Mother’s Day will be here before you know it!

Advertising banners are available in varying sizes and will be Above the Fold on my sidebars.  Monthly and long-term rates will be available.

I have a large Twitter following and submit my blog posts to Twitter and many Web 2.0 social networking sites, including Facebook.

I’m currently participating in a Cross-Blog Conversation with Christie, an intern at Work At Home Moms Talk Radio and as she stated on her one of her responses that I “take no prisoners.”

My decision was based on the fact that many of the affiliate marketing companies such as Linkshare, Bidvitiser, Commission Junction and Logical Media require that you reach a minimum payout requirement before they’ll disburse any funds to you.  I’ve decided that I’m not donating my prime real estate ad space to those companies for free, and Magpie is not an option with me.

Earn Some Cash – Monetize Your Twitter Profile

Twittadmonetise_125x125

One of the ways that I promote and publicize my blogs is through the social networking site, Twitter.  I currently have a Twitter following of approximately 2500 people, and it increases every day.

I participate in many Twitter parties such as Mom It Forward Girls Night Out.

There are many informative sites available to help one understand the nuances and techniques that are used to gain Twitter followers, thereby building your brand and your niche.  I also make use of the popular Hashtags, such as #followfriday, #ff, #gno, #womentofollow and many more that can be found at http://hashtags.org/

After you’ve built a substantial following, I recommend that you look into setting up an account at Twittad.  As a WAHM, I’m always on the lookout for ways to earn a little extra household cash, even if it’s just to pay my web hosting fees!

On Twittad, you can:

  • Post Twitter Account for Advertisers to Purchase
  • Select your duration & price
  • Wait for advertiser to purchase
  • Accept or Deny the proposed ad within 48 hours of purchase

My Twitter profile has been purchased several times and is currently running a promo advertisement. twitterbutton6

I might not be able to take a vacation on my earnings, but  every little bit helps and can go towards payment of my blog hosting fees!

Check it out! Twittad

Want to be An A List Celebrity: Join Slogbite to Increase Blog and Website Traffic

Always on the look-out for ways to increase traffic to my blogs, I’ve discovered Slogbite, a new Site Directory that’s sets itself apart from all the rest.

Slogbite has been diligently tweaking it’s site to become the internet’s premier online site directory. I recently did a review of the site on my Moomettesgram’s Musings blog, and also added this blog, as well as my Moomette’s Magnificents Reviews product review blog to Slogbite.

What distinguishes Slogbite and makes it unique from the run-of-the-mill directory sites, is that Slogbite seeks to establish a “ sense of community ” among it’s participants ~ which is all part of the new Web 2.0 marketing trend. Increase Traffic and Your Blog’s Exposure – Join Slogbite Site Directory.

How to Advertise and Gain Exposure and Traffic for Your Blog ~ Visit Mommy Ranks

Photobucket

Mommy Ranks is new and improved ~ come see the new face lift!

If you’d like Free Advertising and see increased traffic to your blog, add your blog posts to Mommy Ranks.  It’s similar to Stumble Upon or Digg.

Mommy Ranks is described (from it’s About page) as:

…web application that allows you to submit an article that will be reviewed by all and will be promoted, based on popularity, to the main page. When a user submits a news article it will be placed in the “unpublished” area until it gains sufficient votes to be promoted to the main page.

You’ll even be able to create your own profile page.

If you do see any of my posts for Moomettesgram’s Musings, the screenshot is captured by Shrink The Web, and is picking up my Shoppes image rather than this blog image.  Hopefully that will be corrected.

Now who doesn’t like more exposure for their blog?  Visit at http://mommyranks.com

So You’re a New Blogger: What Makes Twitter so Hot?

My Blogoversary is coming up in less than a month, and within the last month or two since I’ve joined Twitter,  I can’t quite say it’s addicting (OK, maybe a little) and I really feel that it’s increased my blog traffic quite a bit.

My mission this fall is to follow through on a weight-loss plan, and through my Tweeps (Twitter friends), I was able to find out about a website that is similar to WW, but is get this, FREE! Now free, fits right into my budget in today’s economy.  So far, I’ve managed to lose 7 pounds thanks to a Twitter.

I can’t quite sing the praises of Twitter enough!  Although you might not hear those exact words said very often online, you know it’s true when you login to your Twitter account or visit someone’s blog. With the emergence of WordPress plug-ins like “TwitThis” and the various twitter badges found on numerous blogs throughout the Internet, it is obvious people adore Twitter. Just what is it that makes this social networking site so lovable? Let’s find out.

The question posed by Twitter, “What are you doing?” has become almost as popular as AOL’s “You’ve got mail.” So much so that it has even caught the eye of offline news mediums such as USA Today, CNN, and ABC. This helps to make the application popular all on its own. Those who think Twitter is just a place for computer or Internet geeks can rest assured it’s nothing of the sort.

For many, Twitter is a way to interact with like-minded individuals. Whether one is a stay at home mom who craves adult conversation, an at home worker who misses the water cooler chit-chat from past jobs, or the business owner who wants to reach more of their target market, this form of social media fills a need. It makes it easier for people to connect with others in a way they might not have previously been able to.  I have friends all across-the board, for eBay, blogs, public relations, frugal coupon saving tips, affiliate marketing, other Baby Boomers, and on-and on.

The fact Twitter is easily accessible and even simpler to navigate makes it a favorite as well. Anyone can create a twitter account of their own with nothing more than a user name and a password. Once that’s done, it’s easy to customize your profile and begin following other Tweeps, as those who use Twitter affectionately call one another. To follow what another person is doing, just visit their page and click the follow button. You’ve now been added as a follower and when you login to your account you will see their messages on your screen.

Want to use Twitter even when you’re not at home or don’t have access to your computer? No problem. Inside your account you can choose whether to have messages sent via cell phone or instant messenger programs as well. Just browse to your settings and choose the devices tab and in a few steps you’re good to go. This feature makes it possible to tweet on the go. This is perfect for those who travel frequently or while out and about come across something interesting or amusing that they’d like to share with their followers.

Twitter’s arrival has also lead to the creation of different platforms and applications to make it appealing to just about everyone. Popular applications include, Twitter Fox, Twhirl, TweetDeck, and TweetMyBlog. Twitter Fox and Twhirl give users who are prefer the instant messaging look and feel a way to use Twitter in somewhat the same manner. Twitter Fox is an extension for the Firefox browser and Twhirl is a desktop application.  Twitter Fox is the method that I prefer, as I have it set to pop up with new Tweets from my Tweeps every 10 minutes.

TweetMyBlog is a way to automatically post updates from a user’s blog to Twitter. In order to use it all one needs is a Twitter account and an RSS feed from their blog. (More on RSS feeds to come in another post.)  It will automatically posts a tweet using your account when your blog is updated.

Tweet Deck is another desktop application that allows for more organization of updates. Instead of posting all a users tweets one right after another, it allows the user to organize tweets into separate columns within the application. For those who have customers and friends on Twitter this is a great feature.
