Virtual Food Drive ~ Girls Night Out on Twitter Gives Back

Friday, November 14th, 2008

Photobucket

For the last two Tuesday nights at 9:00 pm. Eastern Time, I’ve been participating in Girl’s Night Out on Twitter over at Mommy Gossip.  You can do a Twitter Search using #GNO to see all the posts.

It’s so much fun and I’ve met some terrific new Twitter friends and connected with current friends.

The topic this past Tuesday night was Holiday Dishes and Drinks.  There’s some wonderful new recipes posted that I’m going to be trying.  I had several requests for my Bacon Cheese Roll Up Appetizer and Chocolate Mini Marshmallow Velvet Fudge recipe (my Mom’s, and my favorite when I was a kid) that Mommy Gossip was kind enough to feature this week after the event.

GNO is also sponsoring a Virtual Food Drive ~ GNO Gives Back.

Please join me in supporting this worthwhile cause so all American families in need can indeed, have a Happy Thanksgiving.

Visit Mommy Gossip~Cares at http://mommygossip-cares.blogspot.com/ for more information.

Follow me on Twitter on Tuesday November 18 for discussions on Charities we love and how we We Can give back.

Got a Gas Guzzler Boat? Looking to Get Out of Boating? Donate it to Charity!

Got a Gas Guzzler Boat? Need to get out of boating? Don’t Do this to it!
~ Donate it to Charity! ~
I just celebrated my 34th wedding anniversary recently. Two weeks after we got married, my husband and I purchased our first boat, a 25-foot wooden Chris Craft. As we live in Connecticut, Long Island Sound was our usual stomping ground.

Over the years, we bought several more boats, kids came along, and our travels took us and our friends from the marina to wonderful places such as Greenport, Montauk & Sag Harbor, New York, Shinnecock Canal, Block Island and Newport, Rhode Island, among other places.

Generally speaking, our boat got about 11 miles to the gallon. You could see how easily the dollars added up going on even a short excursion, much less a longer one!

Times have changed. Some of our friends are long gone, and others aren’t able to make the long trips any more and are trying to sell their boats. Gas prices because of the economy are out of sight. I have given serious thought to donate my boat to charity.

The old saying goes ~ A boat is a hole in the water in which to throw money. If you’re looking to get out of the boating scene and are unable to sell your gas guzzler, there are many organizations to which you can donate boats.

A wonderful organization, boatangel.org and their parent, use boat donations to create children’s animations and anti-drug documentaries. Boat Angel has outreach centers all over the world. A few of their worthwhile contributions made available through boat donations are helping teen boys in rehabilitation homes as well as uplifting books into prisons. Be an angel, donate your boat.

As Moomettesgram, I’m a Baby Boomer and thrifty Gram from New England ~ I’ve been ‘Around The Block‘ awhile and am familiar with many products, both household and child related.

I’ve seen what were the “hottest trendy household and baby products” when my daughters were little in the ’80s, and I know what the “hottest trendy household and baby products” are now that I have my own grandchildren.

My Baby Boomer status qualifies me to have an opinion on just about everything ~ which I’m more than willing to share!

Product Reviews

If you are an indie designer or crafter, feel you have a Family-Friendly, product that will be of interest to Moms or Babies and Toddlers (girls and boys) or are a PR rep for a company, PLEASE contact me and I will be more than willing to give you an honest review.

Reviewers:

Moomettesgram has been married for close to 35 years and  will review anything having to do with household, beauty or personal care products.

‘Lil Moomette is now wearing a size 24 months, but will be wearing a 3T in Spring  ‘09.  She’s a real girlie-girl, enjoys being read to and creative play.

Slugger will be one year old in August ‘09 and is currently wearing a size 3-6 months but will most likely be wearing a size 9-12 months in Spring ‘09.  He is busy discovering  the world around him.

As I’m a big supporter of Work-At-Home Moms ~ whether you sell on Etsy or have a boutique store, here’s a great way to gain exposure and get the word out for your WAHM unique hand-crafted items and online website.  Eco-Friendly, non-toxic items are also encouraged!

I am unable to review items based strictly on photos, brochures, or a website, and must actually have a physical product to use before an honest review can be made. Therefore, a sample (non-returnable) must be sent, along with permission to use a photo for the review.    I will write the review in exchange for the item. Item will be mine to keep after the review is written.  I will provide a link to the product’s homepage within the review.  All reviews are permanently accessible in the archives and are searchable by category.

You will find it helpful and are encouraged to offer a promotional discount code to my readers.

Links to my prior reviews can be found HERE.

Giveaways and Contests

In addition to the review, I am able to give the option of offering a like item for a Giveaway Contest . I am able to conduct the giveaway on my Blog, along with all details of the giveaway.  I will also submit the contest to various Contest/Giveaway sites for increased exposure.  You, the Seller/Store Owner, will be responsible for sending the prize, at your expense, to the winner of the contest.

Complimentary Bonus Perks of Product Reviews by Moomettesgram

As an extra perk, I will also place a complimentary Text Link Advertisement to your store/site in the right-hand sidebar Prime-Real Estate corner of my Sponsor Section for 30 days from the day the review is posted.

I will also accept business cards as fillers if you provide them, and send them out when shipping products from my eBay store as a means of extra exposure for you.

Drop Shippers

I am always looking for Drop Shippers for my Shoppes site, and after reviewing your product, might possibly consider adding your products.  Please forward your Drop Ship terms to me when you contact me.

If you are unable to submit a sample, I also offer very affordable advertising if you would like your site listed.

Website/Blog Reviews

I also offer reviews of websites and blogs.   Website reviews for companies or sites are available if you  provide a gift certificate that can be used try out your website. I must be able to order a product of my choice, at which point I would then write a review covering your product, ease of use, checkout and shipping services.  The product received will be mine to keep, and is not returnable.  I will provide a written review containing a minimum of 200 words, along with a link to your site.  I also require permission to use a photo of the product for the website review.  If you have any questions, please contact me for specific details.

I’ve been Tagged! How to Meet New Friends and Get Aquainted with other Bloggers!

Friday, May 9th, 2008

I’ve been Tagged with a Meme by Kim, over at Accidental Mommies and What’s That Smell ! Kim is my new friend, and comments on my Mama Mentor Blog that she thinks she and I may be twins! I’ve often felt that way when I see other writers. I actually feel that way about Sue Reimer’s columns over at the Baltimore Sun. Sue is one of my all-time favorite columnists.

Tagging is a great way to network, meet new friends, and get acquainted with other bloggers!

So here goes on the tag:

Here are the rules:

1. The rules of the game get posted at the beginning.
2. Each player answers the questions about themselves.
3. At the end of the post, the player then tags 5-6 people and posts their names, then goes to their blogs and leaves them a comment, letting them know they’ve been tagged and asking them to read your blog.
4. Let the person who tagged you know when you’ve posted your answer.

1 ) What was I doing 10 years ago?

* I was working full-time; raising my family; going to college part-time to finish my degrees;

2 ) What are five things on your to-do list for today?

  • Clean my house (sorta done)
  • List items for my eBay Store & Shoppes Site (not done, too busy blogging)
  • Organize my Bookmarks folder so I can find things on my computer (another day)
  • Continue to research ways to try to retire
  • Remember to eat

3 ) What snacks do I enjoy?

  • A real weakness for white pistachios, and of course, anything divinely chocolate!

4 ) Things I would do if I were a billionaire?

  • Quit my Full-Time cubicle job (in a heart-beat)
  • Pay of all my debt
  • Buy a vacation Condo down South where it’s warm! - a definite subject of a post to come!
  • Buy a vacation Condo up North in Vermont - for ourselves, DD & fam
  • Get my DH the motorcycle he always wanted but I never would ever let him get (maybe another boat, too)
  • Hire a house-cleaning person
  • Travel, for real, and not vicariously this time
  • Donate to several charities I’m grateful to and fond of

5 ) Three Bad Habits

Only 3…. ( agree with you here Kim, only 3?)

  • Opinionated
  • Slacker in my house cleaning (OK, so I don’t entertain as much as when I was younger)
  • I still bite my nails and pay a fortune for gel tips

6 ) 5 places I have lived…
(this is a real joke)

  • my home town in CT where I grew up & graduated high school
  • Longmeadow, Massachusetts (when I was a Freshman in College, but then left to come home and continue college in CT
  • my home town in CT where I grew up & graduated high school
  • my home town in CT where I grew up & graduated high school
  • my home town in CT where I grew up & graduated high school

7 ) 5 Jobs I have had

  • Desk Clerk in a Dry-cleaners
  • Farm Shop Ice Cream Fountain Waitress - scooped ice cream up to my elbows (armpits, I’m short)
  • Lingerie Sales Clerk in a Major Department Store
  • Paralegal in various Law Offices
  • Chief pooper-scooper of the cat litter box (this one’s a freebie & thrown in for good measure)
  • Wife, Mom, Grandmother

8) And the lucky people I’m tagging next are:
* Vicki at Simply Vicki

* Shera at A Frog in My Soup

* Rox at Roxiticus Desperate Housewives

* Lynne at Sewing Mom

* First Time Dad

* Tina at Mummie Diaries

* Christine at From Dates to Diapers and Beyond
