Capture That Moment in Time Through Photography ~ Before It’s History

Thursday, August 7th, 2008

This week has been both exciting and tumultuous for my family. I’m coming down from the high of becoming a grandmother for the second time. It’s both exhilarating and exhausting.

In between all the excitement and responsibilities (i.e., being on red-alert for babysitting ‘Lil Moomette whilst her parents were at the hospital), I’ve had to remember to re-charge the battery on my Canon Powershot camera.

My poor cameras take such a beating. This is actually my second Canon. Last October, my first camera went swimming in the pool at a wedding. I was having my photo taken poolside, and one of the ushers tackled my sidekick, and the camera I was holding did a slow-mo into the pool. Luckily, all the photos on the memory card survived, as I removed it quickly, but the camera was toast.

It’s time to replace once again the one I’m now using. Being a Power Seller, you wouldn’t believe some of the motions I have to go through to try to capture just the right angle on some pictures for my listings. This camera took a dive off a step stool so I’ll be placing an order soon for a new one!

I’ll be needing it to capture all those priceless moments of Moomette’s upcoming second birthday!

Wedding Season ~ Bridesmaids ~ Get Acne Treatment Before the Special Day!

Saturday, August 2nd, 2008

It’s been a week now since the 3-day Wedding of the Season took place. I’ve put away the (so I thought) sexy little black Red-Carpet Runway dress that I wore. You know how you look forward to special events, and then after they take place, it’s like such a letdown that the big event is now behind you?

My youngest daughter, the college student, looked stunning in her boutique Jessica McClintock dress, and got many compliments. She’s turned into a real stunner. But I have to mention that we spent many long hours in the waiting room of dermatologist offices when she was in High School. She had tried every over-the -counter acne products and prescription medicines to try to clear up her skin.

Are you planning a wedding soon?  Perhaps you’ll be a bridesmaid this summer.

Oftentimes acne problems aren’t limited to just teenagers, and can manifest during pregnancy and even mid-life. If you find yourself looking for a solution, check out Get Acne Treatments.

Get Acne Treatments is dedicated to exhaustive and comprehensive research on all the best acne treatments. They systematically categorize products based upon the following criteria:

How to Prepare for a Wedding ~ Pedicures & Spa Message Therapy!

Thursday, July 24th, 2008

It’s going to be a busy weekend for me. My niece is getting married and the wedding is going to be held at one of the premier wedding facilities in Connecticut. That means that this Hot Momma Baby Boomer blogging Grandma has to get her act together.

Now that the lazy, crazy, hazy days of summer are upon us, I decided it was high time I treated myself to a pedicure. Since I’m going to be wearing some spiffy, trendy strappy toe sandals to go with my  boutique halter-back silk evening dress, my tootsies have to be up to snuff.

In addition to the spa pedicures that I get at the salon I go to, the icing on the cake is the back message that they give when your little piggies are under the dryer! The technicians must have gone to some terrific massage therapy schools to learn the trade for their careers!

Just call me “Twinkle Toes”~

Twins Compete in Sport Games and It’s a Win-Win Situation!

Thursday, July 10th, 2008

Charming Son-in-Law’s birthday is coming up next month. I know just the perfect gift to give him. What makes it even more eventful, is that he’s a twin! I call his brother my “Bonus Son-in-Law!”

It’s so fun to watch the two of them when they get together. Charming SIL is originally from Vermont. The two brothers share many of the same interests, although not all.

Both are very much in to sports, and root for the same baseball team. As far as football goes, they’re complete opposites.

When Bonus comes to visit, he always brings his PS2 down. It’s so much fun to watch them both when they get together. I can just imagine what the game competition was like between them when they were younger!

On Mother’s Day I like my Flowers Sent When I’m Above Ground

Thursday, May 8th, 2008

Now that I’m a Baby Boomer, as I get older, I think spending quality family time together is important. This past Sunday was such an occasion. The fam arrived at 11:30 on the dot, all respectibly dressed. We headed South on the highway, straight towards the beach and Connecticut shoreline, my favorite spot!

Turned out my two DDs and Charming Son-in-Law treated DH and I to an early Mother’s Day holiday brunch at Water’s Edge, the Number 1 rated “Best Brunch in Connecticut”, and a belated Birthday celebration present for DH. We had a delightful time, and the Brunch was absolutely spectacular ~ no need for dinner that night! We had a waterside view table overlooking Long Island Sound, and the temps were in the 80’s for May! It was the kind of day we Connecticut folk like to say “you can see straight across” ~ meaning we could see the 12 miles across to Long Island.

I feel so fortunate to be living so close to my daughters and granddaughter (although DD #2, the college student is still at home - most of the time.)

If you aren’t able to be with your own Mom for mothers day, or would like to show your affection to your own daughter or daughter-in-law who may be a Mom herself, send a gift of Flowers!

I love receiving flowers and bouquets, and what makes it extra special is the fact that I can appreciate them now - while I’m still above ground!

Happy Mother’s Day to you all.

Kids Holiday Cookie Party

Saturday, December 22nd, 2007

Peg, over at SMARTMOMS~SMARTBUSINESS,
is an authority on Cooking with Kids. Here she shares another of her goodies for us to enjoy!

Kids Holiday Cookie Party

The holidays are upon us and we’re busy with everything from decorating the house to wrapping presents. The kitchen plays a big role during this time, and depending on your kids’ cooking skills they can play the lead or be part of the supporting cast. One fun way for your kids to get involved in the kitchen now is to have a Kids’ Cookie Exchange Party. Christmas is a good time to have this kind of party, but you can do this whenever you want. Just ask your kids, cookies are good anytime!

First of all, invite as many kids as you’re comfortable with. It could be just neighborhood kids, school friends, or the kids from your extended families. Let your kids make the invites and encourage them to be creative. How about a hand-delivered cardboard invitation with animal cookies glued around it?

To make this party extra special, you can ask everyone to bring one wrapped book for a gift exchange. Also, do you want them to dress up in holiday attire for this party? It could make for some very special pictures.

The rules aren’t complicated:

1. Every child needs to bake the cookies themselves.
2. They need to be baked (no-bakes are no-no’s for sanitary reasons). Bars are okay.
3. Have them bring 2 dozen, which they should be able to get from one batch. This leaves plenty for eating at the party and taking home to share with siblings.
4. No chocolate chip cookies (already been done a zillion times).

Have your kids decorate the table any way they choose. The table is where all the cookies will go so they’ll want to make it look festive.

Your children can practice their hosting skills by greeting their friends at the door and taking care of the cookies that were brought. They can then be in charge of arranging all the cookies around the table and bringing out the plates, cups, milk and punch. Remind your children to only give positive comments about the cookies that were brought. You want to head off any “Gross!” or “Why are they such a weird color?” type comments.

After all the guests arrive and suitably ooh and ahh over the cookies, you can have them play a few games before eating. This would be a good time for the gift exchange, if you’re doing that.

I think its fun to give out awards to every child at the cookie exchange; prettiest cookie, most interesting-looking cookie, best use of chocolate cookie, biggest cookie, most unusual cookie, best color for a cookie, etc. The kids are so proud of what they’ve created and love to show their cookies off. They just may be on their way to becoming the chief cookie maker of your house!
