Usually I try to have my Christmas cards signed and ready to mail out by the first week of December so as to avoid the holiday rush at the Post Office. By ordering our family photo Christmas Cards online from Shutterfly I know I won’t have to worry about if they’ll arrive in time to send out!
You can certainly tell that it’s Autmn in New England now! Besides the wonderful scent of apple pies baking, smoke rising from the woodburning stoves and the changing of the leaves, leaf peeping season brings local and county agricultural fairs! Today we took the grandchildren and went to the Durham Fair!
Where did summer go so quickly? We spent a magnificent September Labor Day Weekend 2011 with the grandchildren celebrating Farm Day at the Fish Family Farm. There were plenty of fun things to do, all for the benefit of the Lutz Children’s Museum in Connecticut.
The long Labor Day Weekend in Connecticut traditionally is when many agricultural fairs are held. We spent another enjoyable day with the entire family and grandchildren at the 100th Anniversary of the Haddam Neck Fair.
This was the scene at The Home Depot in Connecticut before Hurricane Irene. Although it hit New England as a Tropical Storm, over 600,000 homes were without electrical power.

During the Summer and Fall seasons here in New England it’s always a treat to shop at the local family-owned vegetable farm produce stands.
A trip to the Connecticut seashore wouldn’t be complete without a visit to a local seafood restaurant or fish market. On our recent camping trip to Hammonasset we stopped in Clinton Harbor to pick up some fresh steamers and do some alfresco dining for lunch, treating ourselves to the best hot lobster rolls.
The Meigs Point Nature Center at Hammonassett State Park in Madison, Connecticut is a wonderful way to spend the day if you’re traveling and looking for affordable fun things to do in Connecticut with the family.
The water temperature down at the beach in Connecticut is at its warmest in July, and my family enjoys the smell of the salt air and dipping our toes in the salty brine. The experience of watching my grandchildren build sandcastles and make Mush Gook, doesn’t come without a price, as July is Jellyfish season.
