After reading all the informative posts from my lucky blogging friends who attended BlogHer09 in Chicago this year, I’d like to introduce myself in hopes that I can attend BlogHer10 in New York City.

As I live in Connecticut, I’m excited that it will be held on the East Coast in 2010.

Building on the momentum of four consecutive sold-out annual conferences, BlogHer ‘10 will bring bloggers from every corner of the blogosphere together for hands-on learning, rich discussions, opportunities to meet with the brands that support them and plentiful networking opportunities. BlogHer ‘10 will take place on August 6-7, bringing nearly two thousand attendees together.

When: August 6-7, 2010

Where: New York City, New York

I ‘d like to attend this special conference so I won’t be a blog conference virgin any longer, and am seeking Sponsors to send me via either a partial or full scholarship.

Your company has the opportunity to sponsor me to one of the top blogging events and I will promote your company and brand while networking with hundreds of other bloggers to create an online marketing campaign for the same time period while you receive well-rounded exposure.

What I Can Do For You:

Event sponsorships are one of the best ways to reach your target market in an authentic way with a Blogging Professional who will promote your brand exclusively.

I will be able to promote your brand by:

  • Wearing your branded company clothing throughout the conference
  • Distributing branded promotional items such as business cards, samples, swag bags to conference attendees
  • Tweeting conference happenings live as well as promoting your brand to my approximately 4,000 followers during the duration of the conference through my extensive Twitter and FriendFeed following
  • I will do follow-up posts which I will share on this blog, in addition to my Fan page on Facebook
  • Provide follow-up commentary to the many social networking forums that I belong to

I do not charge anything for these campaigns, and seek partial and/or  fully covered event sponsorship.

Seeking Partial Sponsorships in $100 to $200 increments which may cover:

Conference Fee; Round-trip Train transportation from Hartford, CT to NYC; cab fare to and from hotel to Grand Central Station; hotel room-rate fee for 2 nights (double occupancy rate); some meals, incidentals.

Why It Would Benefit You To Sponsor Me:

Since I started blogging to share my experiences as a WAHM, I’ve have really grown to enjoy meeting new friends from all over the globe. As a professional Paralegal in both the private and public sector, I offer demonstrated business experience that I am able to share with  women interested in working from home.

Moomette’s Magnificents has grown and morphed since 2007 and I’ve settled in as a Baby Boomer appealing as a multi-generational writer  covering Work-At-Home subjects, e-commerce, Social Networking, Parenting and Grandparenting topics. My blog was voted and honored as one of the Top 10 WAHM Blogs by Sparkplugging for 2008.

Additionally, I offer Product Reviews from the viewpoint of an experienced Baby Boomer Mom and Grandmom “who’s been around the block.”  I’m familiar with many products, both household and child related. I’ve seen what were the “hottest trendy household and baby products” when my daughters were little in the ’80s, and I know what the “hottest trendy household and baby products” are now that I have my own grandchildren.

The Internet is quickly becoming the medium of choice for marketers and statistically proven that Mom Bloggers are increasingly influential in getting the word out to decision makers ~ Moms and Grandmoms ~  about the newest and hottest products on the market.

As a Baby Boomer I am a cross-generational blogger and mentor, and am able to reach out to a wide demographic range of women who make marketing decisions.

Back-To-School: Team Sports & Customized Clothing

This and That

Youth Soccer Team

Both of my daughters were active in sports from elementary school on up through college.  As a matter of fact, today my youngest daughter participated in a benefit mud-volleyball tournament for epilepsy.

As a mom, we always fear the dreaded sports-related injury phone call.  Even though she’s 22, I’m still getting them.  We had to pick her up from the ER today after an asthma attack on what has been the hottest day of the summer here so far.

My charming son-in-law is involved in athletics and as such, has to shop for team shirts for the kids.  That task can be quite daunting.  In the past, my husband has had hooded sweatshirts printed up for business promotion, and gave our son-in-law some pointers.

Indigo Clothing offers t-shirt printing and is a simple to use website to order online.  They try to offer the lowest prices around and believe that excellent customer service is important. Their clients range from blue-chip companies to church groups and student clubs.

Major discounts are available on bulk orders  if you use Code: StockClearance, and there’s a Student Cash Back of up to 20% off their list if you use Code: Cashback.

If you’re a parent looking to promote your team or PTA school fundraiser, or perhaps a businessperson looking to gain exposure for your company, Indigo promotional clothing is an easy way to get the job done.

Knee Deep in Kids

Let The Good Times Roll

Moving right along in my Retro Series, the 90s and beyond were busy times for us here in Dysfunction Junction.

The economy (to us) was pretty good, and we were heavily involved in all the usual sorts of parenting activities involving the kiddos – in other words, we didn’t have a life.

To add to the adventure, the Hubster started his own business, and we celebrated our 25th Wedding Anniversary in 1999.

Here’s just a sampling

Swimming lessons
Dance lessons
Pre-School
First Day of School
Soccer, Softball Lacrosse, Cross-Country
Overnight camp
Family Vacations
Driving Lessons

Occasionally I found time to par-tay (just to keep my sanity) no, I don’t drink a lot, but it seems that whenever I’m not the one taking the pictures, someone else is capturing me at my “best” !

We’ve celebrated some milestones, had some fun, gained a little weight, pulled out our hair, and obviously dyed it several different colors over the years!

I’ve had a lot of fun this week showing my readers who’s behind the computer screen in this Retro Series , sharing tidbits of wisdom, or hot-flashing, ranting, raving at times!

If you want to know even more about me (OMG), keep checking my 101 Things About Me tab that I’ll keep adding to!

If I Could Turn Back Time: Part 4 – The Kids Arrive

Time Passes Quickly Into The Future

Vintage Pocket Watch

I’m having so much fun this week trudging down memory lane. (I think.)

Actually, I’m on MomDot’s forum, and TellingDad, the only male member there, made a statement that gave me the inspiration for this post.

If I Could Turn Back Time

Our firstborn came along nine years after we were married – born in 1983.  The 1980s found me knee deep in kids, diapers, and work.

Falmouth, Cape Cod

Preggo - Falmouth, Cape Cod

I was eco-friendly, green and cloth-diapering before it even became fashionable.  You young gals today make me laugh – it’s as if you invented it.  We just DID IT.

Pampers and a few other brands were just coming out then, but my mom got me a diaper service for one month.  After that, I was on my own.  Diaper pails, Dreft and Borax.  And  big yellow safety pins.  I even think I kept some.

The big decision then, which stirred a lot of controversy was … do I go back to work.  There were two schools of thought – either you did, or you didn’t.  I went part time.

Which makes me laugh again, because foremost, my generation was fighting that glass-ceiling thing, which still hasn’t been settled.  We wanted to keep our careers on the fast-track, yet we wanted to stay home with the kiddos.

There was the playgroup, tennis/pool club set – and then there were those of us who had to work to pay the mortgage.

So really, this whole controversy is nothing new, and hasn’t changed in 20 years.

I worked three days per week in a law office, and made up the other two by working at home at night on a (gasp!) state-of-the-art Royal electric typewriter – which totaled 40 hours.

Fortunately, my daycare was split between my mom and my mother-in-law.

Days off found me down the Connecticut beaches

Or inviting myself over to my girlfriend’s house visiting my friends who happened to have pools.

Take note of the Farrah Fawcett – Princess Di hairdo….

Pool Party 1983

That first Mother’s Day was super fun with all the holidays – I really enjoyed dressing up my daughter!  When DD became a mom and celebrated her first Mother’s Day, it certainly brought back memories!

I used to love the Rothschild coat, hat and leggings sets – and even managed to get one for ‘Lil Moomette when she was about the same age!  Little stinker threw up on it the first time she wore it though.  Guess who footed the dry cleaning bill?

Darling Daughter #2 came along in 1987, and then the fun really began!  I never had a sister, so I was kind of happy that both of my kids were girls.

Manage Your Sports Team Online: Team Snap

Manage Your Team or Group Online

We’re heading into the home stretch of August, which is bittersweet to me.

Both of my daughters participated in sports such as soccer, lacrosse, and cross-country from the time they were in elementary school, and all through high school and college.

Each August during high school, their sports teams held “captains practice” week.  It is the unofficial start of the Fall sports season. One year we vacationed at the Connecticut shore, which was in commuting distance of their high school.  We’d pack them up from a day at the beach and drive our oldest daughter to “captain’s practice,” then back down to the shore.

I often overhear many of my co-workers speak of how they actively coach or participate in the coordination of their children’s sports activities.

If you’re such a parent, you might be interested in TeamSnap – The simplest, easiest way to manage your team or group online.

Growing at a rate of 10% a month, TeamSnap continues to add features that increase the site’s value and usefulness to team coaches, managers, participants and parents.

Highlight features include:

  • Manage game and schedule events
  • Track fees and payments
  • Track individual and team stats

New features this fall, which will include Seasons (ability to archive and access past media and data), customizable Photobooks, and a fun affiliate program where anyone can refer TeamSnap to earn cash.

Life in Dysfunction Junction: Part 3 Guest Post By The Cat

Celebrity Guest Post

Maxine

Life in Dysfunction Junction

The CatMy mom is on vacation this week taking a much need break, and I’ve been asked to guest post.

The theme this week is to give a little insight into family life here in Dysfunction Junction, Connecticut.

Little did she know that she has finally given me an opportunity after all these years to vent and  finally let everybody know exactly how I feel.

About Me

I am The Cat. I’m 12 years old and I arrived on the scene when DD26 was in 8th grade.  What happened exactly was that when DD was in 3rd grade and asked what she could get if she ever made straight A’s in school, the ‘rents erroneously said “anything.” So the kid made straight A’s in 8th grade for both terms, and the rest is history.

The Cat - Baby Pictures

My Kitty Pictures

The ‘rents were originally dog people.  At least Dad was.  See, I replaced Dog #1

Dog #1

But he died of epilepsy when he was 18 months old.  Wonder what caused it.

Then, Dog #2 arrived, pre and post-kids, and lasted 12 years.  After that, they were fur-free for awhile, until I came along.

Dog #2

Dog #2

So they really had to have a professional picture of this mutt taken?  Geez.

But Mom is a cat person.  I really should have been an outdoor cat, but they turned me into this house cat, and the most fresh air I get is occasionally sitting on the open windowsill.  Once in awhile I manage to sneak out.  I actually caught a mouse – once – in the house.  See, I earn my keep.

Here’s a few of my favorite things to do.

Hide and Go Seek

Every now and then they like to humiliate me.

Life was good, until the Grand Dog came along.   That dog is over here way too much.  The kid got married, and brings the mutt over, and I got stuffed in a cage.

We have to learn to get along

We have to learn to get along

At least I’m not the only one who gets humiliated.  Anyway, I think I look better in antlers than the Mutt does in that dumb Santa hat and bunny ears.

Some of my favorite things to do is aggravate Mom now that she spends waaay too much time blogging instead of giving me the attention I rightfully deserve.

I like to crawl into the printer drawer when she’s printing things out.  Wow, you should hear the words that come out of her mouth – #$%&*#@.  But it works – I get coaxed out with Turkey.

Another thing I like to do is this.

I am more important than that screen

I am more important than that screen

>

This really frosts my mom.  That way, she’s paying attention to me instead of whatever it is she’s looking at on that screen.

She’ll be back tomorrow, as she’s busy working on her Recipe Blog.

If I get enough comments on this post, maybe she’ll let me Guest Post again.

Post Woodstock: Part 2 – The 1970s And Still Kid-Free

Summer has finally arrived in Connecticut- at least for now.  Today has really been a scorcher – in more ways than one.

Through the Looking Glass

I come from a long-lived family.  Regular readers know that I often write about  my Grandmom, who lived to be 101.

Nana circa 1920s

I’ve written how I have a Sixth Sense, and have an eery ability to know when something’s going to happen.  I’ve also  written several posts about my Grandmom that you just might want to read to see just where I’m coming from.

That’s what this week is all about.

Today I attended the funeral of basically what I consider my last living relative (besides my brother.)  My favorite aunt, who was also my Godmother, passed away at 95.

I’m a Baby Boomer, but I still want my mommy.

So it is with some trepidation that I am strolling down memory lane this week, looking at the photo albums to continue to give you a glimpse into  “who I am.”

Post Woodstock, I came of age as an adult in the 1970s.

circa 1972

We spent quite a bit of time down the shore, as my future mother-in-law always liked to rent cottages for the whole family to go to.  What was a bummer was that Connecticut lowered the drinking age to 18 from 21 in 1972, the year I turned 20.

Back then there really wasn’t too much to do – we’d go to the movies on Friday and Saturday nights – there weren’t any such things as clubs to go to.  It was pretty boring for  date-night.

I married in 1974 to the guy who was in my homeroom all through high school and took me to the Senior Prom

1974

Don’t you just love the hats that I picked out for the girls?

Actually, the dresses were halter style, and not all that bad.  The gal to my immediate left is my IRL best  friend, (Hi if you’re reading this, I miss you!) and the only one I keep in touch with.

We were kid-free for 9 years after we got married.

Within 2 weeks of being a newlywed, we bought a boat and traveled all over Long Island Sound, as well as to places such as Newport, RI; Block Island; Montauk NY;  Sag Harbor, NY; through the Intercoastal Waterway to Fire Island National Seashore – even after the kids came along

Boat

We ended up owning 3 boats over the course of our years

Moving on, we bought our first house, and I off to work I go as a Paralegal for the next 30 years …

Gotta Pay the Mortgage

and we all know the story about how I’m trying to retire from that dreaded cubicle job.  I’m going to end up like Dooce and be fired for writing about it if I don’t end up retiring.

All our friends and relatives were getting married in the 1970s.

Cindi

There were at least 6-10 couples from high school who got married to each other.  For years I served on the High School Reunion Committee.  We’re basically the only couple left that’s still on our first marriage.

I know I often refer to myself as the “first wife” and “second wife.

The ‘me’ of today, is not the ‘me’ who I was back then.

How about you? Are you still who you used to be?

To Be Continued….

Woodstock: Part 1 – Talking About My Generation

Peace

Woodstock Music Festival

People try to put us d-down (Talkin’ ’bout my generation)
Just because we get around (Talkin’ ’bout my generation)
Things they do look awful c-c-cold (Talkin’ ’bout my generation)
I hope I die before I get old (Talkin’ ’bout my generation)

This is my generation
This is my generation, baby

“My Generation”….The Who

I’m officially on vacation  and am taking this opportunity to post a 5-part “Retro” series….about me.

I’m opening up a little window here … normally I’m a pretty private person, but I think that it’s about time that my readers get to know a little bit more about “grandmom.”

Now I wasn’t born this age, although my kids think I was.  Once upon a time, I was young, like many of my readers, with dreams and aspirations, like so many dewy-eyed young things.

Life and experience though, sometimes makes you jaded, and sometimes you just have to let go of those dreams.

So, I’m going to be sitting on the Veranda this week, sipping what-eva I feel like.  Sometime it might be lemonade, and sometimes it might be well, shall we say – stronger.

This month commemorates the 40th anniversary of Woodstock.   The festival was held in Upstate New York at Max Yasgur’s farm in 1969.  I was 17 years old then.  Although I appreciated the music genre, there was no way in hell that I would be allowed to make the trek to that festival, even if I wanted to go.

In the late 1960s, I recall the great musicians of Woodstock – Richie Havens, Arlo Guthrie, Joan Baez, John Sebastian, Canned Heat, Greatful Dead, Creedance Clearwater Revival, Sly and The Family Stone, The Who, Jefferson Airplane, Joe Cocker, The Band, Blood Sweat and Tears, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young … and on and on and on

All those groups I grew up listening to – still do, and I’m sure many of you recognize those familiar songs that perhaps your parents listened to over the years.

But they were from MY Generation, and how in the world did 40 years go by so damn fast?

Here I am in the late 1960s,

Cindi - Circa 1968

My younger brother, who grew up to become a professional photo-journalist, took this in my Poncho-wearing era, circa 1968

And here I am, again,

Cindi - London 1969

The Beatles This is me, when I took my first trip abroad to England in 1969 to visit a penpal for 2 weeks and stayed with her family – the Beatles were pretty popular then, and I thought I was so cool.

Now here’s my high school graduation picture from 1970 – like the Sassoon haircut that Twiggy made popular?  I wore that hairstyle for years – even after I grew it longer, I’d always go back to it.

Graduation 1970

Here I am in my freshman year of college  with the gals from my dorm floor – (end, far right) I went to an all-girl’s college in Massachusetts – right smack in the middle of the Vietnam War era – Peace Movement.

College Freshman Year 1970

So if you’ve ever wondered where I get my Feminist leanings from, wonder no longer.  Women my age fought hard for the rights that all the young gals of today take for granted.  (See previous posts if you’re curious)

and this …

Cindi - December 1970

and this

Cindi - 1970-1971

(1971) bell bottom hip hugger pants, peasant blouse, boots  and a cigarette

shows that this Baby Boomer grandmom wasn’t born looking like I do now – I’ve earned every gray hair and wrinkle (though dang few) that life has thrown at me.

So now, tell me what you think.
