Daycation Travel New England

Connecticut is home to three covered bridges in the state, and the hubby and I visited the Comstock Covered Bridge in East Hampton, Connecticut.  It had been closed for restoration and recently reopened, and was truly a sight to behold!  New England is famous for it’s covered bridges, and we do all we can to preserve our colonial heritage!

When I was a Chevy Brand Ambassador as part of the Connecticut Chevy Girl program, I ventured out to the Litchfield Hills in the northwest corner to photograph the Cornwall Covered Bridge and Bulls Covered Bridge.  You can drive your car over both of these covered bridges.

Now that the Comstock Covered Bridge Bridge restoration project is completed, I’m going to tell you a little bit about this treasure!

The Comstock Covered Bridge is located in East Hampton, Connecticut which is off the beaten path in the Central region of Connecticut.  It’s now open to pedestrian foot traffic only.  The covered bridge spans the Salmon River, and we visited during the Fishing Season, which recently opened.  Anglers in the Salmon River were wearing their waders and fishing for Trout, which is stocked by the State.

There’s also a very well-kept shaded picnic area which the family can enjoy for a bagged lunch staycation day trip and meander down along the banks of the Salmon River.

National Historic Register

The Comstock Bridge was named after a  local postmaster, Franklin G. Comstock.  There’s plenty of  local lore, involving illegal hootch during the prohibition era.

Within the Town of East Hampton is the Middle Haddam Historic District  which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. The Middle Haddam Historic District is a small residential area in Middle Haddam, a village borough in the southwest corner of East Hampton, a town in central Connecticut and has it’s own post office.

If you’re looking for a nice getaway or things to do with kids or grandchildren for New England getaway vacation, take the family to visit Comstock Covered Bridge, Cornwall Covered Bridge or Bull’s Bridge in Connecticut. We’re beautiful any time of year, not just during fall foliage season!
