Ye Olde Connecticut River Cove Warehouse

Follow Me on Pinterest

A Piece of Connecticut’s History

The Connecticut River has always had an important part in our history. The river is navigable from Saybrook Point, at the mouth of the River, north up until Hartford. During colonial times, ships would anchor and often their provisions would be loaded into cove warehouses along the river.

Connecticut River Historic Warehouse Barn

Be sure to check out this historic barn architecture when you visit Connecticut as it dates from mid 1600′s – Another photo from my many daytrips.

Wow that is really cool! So the river has receded? Did I interpret that correctly? Or is the warehouse set back along the river? That would be a good setting for a crime novel (yes, I should write one, I see scenes for them in my head all the time – but not in a weird psycho way)

Hi Kim – the river has various coves between Saybrook and Hartford. This cove originally had 6 such warehouses, and this is the last one standing. The warehouse is set back on land I’d say maybe 100 feet. The warehouse is built to withstand the crest of flood level waters, which do happen. I’ve actually seen it.
