When my daughters were school age, oftentimes I would drop a little surprise note into their lunch boxes just to let them know I was thinking of them during the day!  It almost served as a “good angel” ~ “bad angel” on their shoulder too ~ you know, putting the guilt trip on them?  (Bad mommy!)  Well, I guess I was ahead of my time!
