The lower Connecticut River in Essex, Connecticut is particularly beautiful when iced over. Here are some boat docks and seagulls that I photographed during the Eagle Watch Festival held in February.
Winter on the Connecticut River, Essex, Connecticut

If you visit Connecticut in the summer and the town of Essex, along the Connecticut River, you’ll find it bursting with activity at the local marinas. There you’ll find boutiques, pubs, the historic Griswold Inn (which the locals call the “Gris”) and art shops.
The burg of Essex is equally beautiful as well as tranquil during the winter months, when the Connecticut River freezes. A partially tidal river, the tide carries salt water up the river as far as Essex. There’s always plenty of seagulls in sight, as well as nesting Eagles. If you visit Connecticut, bring the kids and grandchildren and be certain to check out the Eagle Festival and the Essex Ed Groundhog parade!
