Years ago I was visiting a cousin in her itty-bitty New York City apartment.  Before we entered, everyone left their shoes outside the door in the hallway.

When my daughter married, we visited my son-in-laws parents for the first time up in Vermont.  The first thing his family did when they entered the house was to take off their shoes, and put on a comfy pair of slippers that were nearby.

My son-in-law still does this now that he has his own home.  He manages to wear out several pairs of slippers a year.  With the cold winters in New England, it’s pretty easy to do!
