Connecticut Painted Rocks and Road Food

On a beautiful warm day in May right before Memorial Day Weekend we took a day trip drive to take in some of the local curiosities and scenery in Connecticut.  We’ve visited most of the roadside painted rocks in the state, and found our way to Montville, Connecticut to visit Sparky, the Montville Fire Department’s painted rock dog.

The Montville Fire Department is located along Connecticut Route 163, and if you visit Connecticut and are driving by, be sure to look for the large painted rock commemorating the Department’s mascot fire dog, Sparky.

Montville and Uncasville are nearby the Mohegan Sun Casino, Foxwoods and MGM Grand so it’s just a short drive to take in a daycation and the local scenery.

There are other painted rocks in Connecticut that are within an easy day’s drive and day trip, or to put on your agenda for a staycation.

We’ve visited Eagle Painted Rock in Hebron, and Turtle  Rock in Marlborough.  Take the kids or grandchildren on a road trip, and make it an outing by stopping by for a bite to eat at some of the local roadside food hot dog and hamburger stands!

You won’t want to miss Harry’s Place in Colchester, Connecticut, right off Route 2.  It’s been in business for over 90 years and you’ll find picnic tables where you can enjoy milkshakes, ice cream, onion rings, fries, clams and good old-fashioned road food!
