As a Baby Boomer Grandmom, I’m very concerned about the state of Health care reform in this country. I’ve been around for many Administrations and have heard for years that the promise of change will be forthcoming. Fortunately, the current Administration is moving forward to affect that change.
But how will that change be of benefit to my grandchildren, who are now 9 months and 2-1/2 years? How will that change benefit your own children or grandchildren?
Speak Now for Kids is a grassroots movement to ensure that children’s needs are included in health care reform. While it goes without saying that I’m very concerned about Medicare reform and other adult care issues at this point in my life, I feel equally concerned that as parents and grandparents, we must be speak on behalf of the children to let Congress know that their health care is just as important.
Baby Boomers know that there is strength in numbers, and as moms, we know we yield quite a bit of influence.
The Facts:
* 8.8 million children in the U.S. do not have health insurance
* Insured children are more likely to receive preventative care, and therefore they get sick less often.
* Many adult chronic conditions have their origins in childhood.
* Even with insurance, children currently receive only 41% of preventative medical care.
Here’s what you can do to help:
Visit Speak Now for Kids:
1. Learn about the campaign.
2. Speak to Congress about the importance of children’s health care.
3. Share the message through your own Blog, Vlog, Facebook, Twitter, and e-mail.
4. Join the campaign by uploading video at www.SpeakNowforKids.org
To learn more about the campaign and tweet with a representative from the National Association of Children’s Hospitals, join us this Wednesday, May 6th, from 9 to 10 p.m. eastern time on Twitter for a #SpeakNowforKids SiteWarming.
RSVP here and spread the word! Together we can make a difference.
