New England Halloween Happenings

Fall in New England is a special time of year. Although I live in Connecticut, the states are so close that we can easily visit many wonderful events, and it’s an easy gas-tank away to make it a day-trip for the family.

Over the years, we’ve visited the wonderful historical town of Salem, Massachusetts during it’s 300th Anniversary of the Salem Witch Trials, during October, which was tremendously educational and entertaining.

I’d like to let you know about a family event that’s both enjoyable and taking place for a good cause. Take the kids and invite the grandparents (yay!).

The Boston Medical Center’s Halloween Town will be taking place this year on October 24 – 25 at the Seaport World Trade Center. The special guest is Dan Zanes.

While Dan Zanes takes the main stage, the rest of the Seaport World Trade Center will be transformed into a 70,000 square-foot haunted town for toddlers to 12 year olds.

Interactive games and kid friendly activities include:

Interact with a “real” ghost

Meet & Greets with favorite characters from movies, books and cartoons

LazerTag

Children can also listen to their favorite tales in the MonsterPiece Theater

iParty Birthday Lab

Pepsi Monster Midway

Haunted Mine

Farmers Market

The Swamp

All zones are “scare rated” providing fun for all ages. Halloween Town is also packed with great entertainment including jugglers, dancers, and fabulous musicians. With over 15,000 guests last year and more than 120,000 pieces of candy given away it is sure to become this year’s highlight for all ages from toddlers to ‘tweens.

I hope everyone enjoyed the 4th of July Holiday Weekend!

My family just recently returned from a long camping trip! While it was very enjoyable, it’s challenging to plan meals ahead and pack healthy snacks that the whole family would enjoy!

I recently had the opportunity to try out some new Chex Mix Bars. I packed these along for everyone to eat while at the beach. They worked out well since these snacks were individually wrapped.

This delicious snack combines crunchy Chex pieces, pretzels and peanuts with chewy and indulgent ingredients like caramel and chocolate. I really like the combination of sweet and salty – and if that’s not enough, they have less than 150 calories per bar and provide at least 8 grams of whole grain per serving (48 grams recommended daily)!

A great combination of the ingredients you love, Chex Mix Bars are a tasty treat that will leave you feeling satisfied and guilt-free!

New England Travel Ideas & Summer Solstice

Welcome, Summer Solstice, and the first day of Summer in the Northern Hemisphere!

School is out for most everyone, and our thoughts are turning to hot fun in the summertime!

But it’s not hot here, at least not in New England! If you’re a kid, I guess it doesn’t really make a difference, as you’re off to camp of one sort or another, or just hanging with your friends.

We don’t have any immediate plans, as you can see from my wanderings in my Vicarious Traveler meme. There will be one trip to Ogunquit, Maine with charming son-in-law’s parents that I’ll be looking forward to later this summer. Maine’s usually cooler though, isn’t it? Well, it has Maine lobsters, so that’s a redeeming factor.

Yet, now that summer’s here, it’s pretty hard to concentrate when I’m in the cubicle during my day job. Of course, I thought I was retiring (still have 9 days to decide…tempting) and would get to have carefree time like I did when I was (much) younger.

I think back to those days when my kids were little, and I’d be setting up the Mr. Turtle pool in the mornings, hoping the water would warm up to let the kids play come afternoon.

It looks like the summer weather isn’t shaping up to be too grand in any part of the country this year.
