Road Trip Emergency ~ Credit Cards ~ Florida ~ Snow Birds & Count Me In for the Early Bird Special!

Are you trying to cut down on credit card debt and expenses? I know I am. Although the country is in an economic downturn that will hopefully pick up within the next year, it’s always good to have at least one credit card for emergencies.

Over the weekend, my sister-in-law announced that she rented a condo for 2 months this winter in Florida ~ and she invited me down for a few days!

Now, I consider that an emergency! I need some R & R, and actually haven’t had a winter vacation where I relaxed down South since I was a teenager. No winter breaks for me!

To fund this little road trip, I’m going to Apply for a credit card that issues rewards for every time I use it. I’m also looking for one that is unsecured and has a low regular rate, and no annual fees. Cardhub makes it easy for me to find exactly what I’m looking for.

Do you have any ‘emergencies’ that you might like to have a card on-hand for? Check them out! It’s an awsome site!  They’ve covered every option to help you out ~ search capabilities, saved searches ~ the only thing they need to improve on is making the print larger for these Baby Boomer eyes!

Can you say “Early Bird Special?”

Ready for a Road Trip this summer? Head West to Texas & The Stark Museum of Art

May 24, 2008 by Moomette's Magnificents (Admin)

There’s nothing more that I enjoy than a “Road Trip.” Each summer when I was younger, my family would always head out in July for one week somewhere. We live in New England, and my fondest memories included visiting the usual tourist sites ~ Washington, D.C.; Atlantic City (before it became a casino haven); Florida; Niagra Falls; Lake George, NY; Cape Cod and many other destinations.

When I had my own family, we piled the kiddos into our brand new Mini Van, and ventured down the DelMarVa peninsula, across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel “Take Your Car to Sea” and on to Virginia Beach & Colonial Williamsburg.

But I’ve never been farther ‘west’ than Chicago. My brother-in-law spent time in the Air Force in Texas, and when he got married, took his bride to San Antonio, and all the other sites. I’ve co-workers who have hailed from Texas, as well as those who have visited, and am amazed at how they spoke of its vastness and interesting sites.

So, I will travel vicariously, and suggest if you hit the open road, to visit the Stark Museum. Orange, Texas has so much to offer! The Start Museum explores the art of the American West. It houses one of the finest collections of 19th and 20th century Western American art and artifacts in the country. The Stark Museum of Art is a program of the Nelda C. and H.J. Lutcher Stark Foundation. The Stark Foundation’s mission seeks to improve the quality of life in Southeast Texas by encouraging, promoting and assisting education, the arts, and health and human services.

Although I’m familiar with Native American art as Connecticut has Foxwoods Casino and a renouned Indian Museum, the Stark Museum has different collections, including Western Art, American Indian Art, Decorative Arts, and Rare Books and Manuscripts.

This summer the Stark Museum of Art will feature a rotating exhibition entitled “Thirtieth Anniversary Treasures” running from August 19, 2008 – October 29, 2008.

In 2008 the Stark Museum of Art will celebrate its thirtieth anniversary. This special exhibition will highlight treasures from the collections, including works not previously exhibited.

So, I suggest you visit their website, and put The Stark Museum of Art on your itinerary of great places to see and visit!

The mission of the Stark Foundation is to improve the quality of life in Southeast Texas by encouraging, promoting and assisting education, the arts, and health and human services. The Foundation carries out this mandate, in part, through the programs of the Stark Museum of Art.

College Grads ~ Ready, Set, Shop for your Career Wardrobes ~ Decisions, Decisions ~ Have you heard of Infinity Shoes?

null

I was an Uptown Girl before there were Uptown Girls. When I was younger, I worked in the Insurance City in Hartford. My BFF from the office and I would take extended lunches, and cruise the best-high end department store in the city, all 11 floors of it on our lunch ‘hour.’ I was Imelda before she was known for her shoe fetish.

Shoes were my weakness. The shoe department was located on the second floor. I must have owned, oh, I can’t even remember, but a pair of shoes for every outfit! Well, that was a long time ago, and the department store has now closed.

But I still like shoes. And now, I can shop to my heart’s content at Infinity Shoes. They have shoes in every style imaginable for every age group! I used to have a pair of Frye Leather Boots to go with my mini-skirts (can you believe it?) Well, they even sell the Frye – I haven’t been able to find those in ages!

My DD, the college student, would probably love the Seychelles shoes for clubbing, or any upcoming weddings she’ll be attending this summer. She also will be interning this summer and for her career wardrobe would really be complete with the Tsubo shoes.

And Birkenstocks! The Flower Child in me still loves these comfortable favorites! With the right pair, I can even walk all over Boston or NYC for the day when I go on Road Trips! Besides my old favorites, they also carry Minnetonka Boots.

So if you want to beat the crowds and shop for affordable shoes on your lunch hour the easy way, bookmark this great site!
