Land a Job With These 9 Job Search Tips

Career Choices

Each day news sites such as CNN, or MSNB, along with local and national print newspapers are featuring articles regarding unemployment figures in the USA.
You or a family member might even be out of work yourself. We all know people who are unemployed or underemployed. Unless you already know absolutely what field you’d like to work in, do some research on the alternative career choices.
Start a list of potential career choices. Explore the possibility of turning your hobby into a career. Are you a wine connoisseur? Recently I did a post about how I’m a new aficionado of Ice Wine that my brother helped me to discover. You might look into wine jobs. Then thoroughly investigate each one and find out what the job tasks are and what training and/or skills are necessary. You should be able to narrow your list down the more information you discover.
Searching for a new job is becoming a common occurrence these days what with all the layoffs from companies downsizing or going out of business.
However, searching for a job doesn’t need to be as painful as you might envision it, and there are definitely things you can do to make it go smoother. Here are some job searching tips:
Treat job hunting like a full time job.
Work on your search every day, just as you would a job. Looking for a job is a full time job. If you need to, get dressed in work attire, sit down in your home office, and get to work making phone calls, searching online, networking, sending out your resume and cover letter, etc.
Don’t wait to find a job.
Even if you’ve been given a nice severance package, don’t procrastinate. You don’t know how long it’ll take to find a job and you don’t want to run out of benefits before you nail a new position. If you have experience in the beverage jobs field as a barista, research transferring those marketing talents into the coffee jobs field.
You might find that you need to take some courses at a local community college to get yourself up to speed in your industry, and the sooner you find this out in your job search, the better off you’ll be.
Create an e-resume.
If you make a master e-resume, then you can personalize and change it to match different job positions that you’re applying for. It’s easier to do if you can work off a master copy rather than recreate a new resume each time. Likewise, you can do the same for your cover letter.
Educate yourself.
Learn as much as you can about the company you’re applying to so you can showcase your knowledge and gear your resume and interview answers around the company’s mission statement, business direction, and philosophies.
Get online and offline help.
Don’t be afraid to use all the resources available to you such as resume posting services, headhunters, job search emails, job boards, career counselors, State Department of Labor, etc.
Have your reference info handy.
Have a paper with all pertinent facts – names of at least 3 references; the companies they’re employed by; their business titles; plus email addresses and phone numbers. When you’re going through the interview process, give your references a heads-up that they may be contacted shortly. That way they don’t get a phone call out of the blue and they’ll be prepared to speak to your strengths.
Research and target your market.
Find out where the jobs are in your market. Is it a growing field with new opportunities that might interest you? Is one company merging with another? Is the current CEO retiring? Do your research and keep abreast of current events and go after the position you want.
Spread your net.
Tell everyone from friends, neighbors, past co-workers, to fellow church and organization members that you’re looking. Use social media like LinkedIn to list your credentials and resume. Network with LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter. Many people have found jobs via Twitter by simply tweeting what their area of expertise is and asking people to “retweet” their message.
Have a plan.
Start a spreadsheet to record what you’ve done and where you are with your searching. That way you wont’ duplicate your efforts and you’ll have a clear idea of what to do next. Being proactive will help you from becoming too discouraged.
Searching for a new job after you’ve been let go sometimes feels like the end of the world, but there are ways you can speed up the process and become successful at finding the job you want.

If You’re Single Again This Year – Try Cyberspace Online Dating
January 1, 2010 by Moomette's Magnificents (Admin)

Starting All Over Again
Social Networking
There’s been quite a bit of discussion lately with the new tv shows that are out, and the gossip magazines talking about “cougars” and younger men, older women. Whoever said that finding love and dating whether you’re in your 30’s,mid-life or a Baby Boomer is unheard of? I have two sister-in-laws who became widows at an early age. One remarried within 3 years, and the second sister-in-law is now in a relationship.
Looking for love and companionship isn’t something that goes away simply because you aren’t a spring chicken any longer. Whether it’s getting back on track to finding a new, passionate relationship, or simply wanting some companionship, there’s no reason for you to shy away from the idea of dating again. Despite this, getting back into the dating scene at an older age may initially feel quite awkward. Here’s a few of the top single dating tips that I’ve compiled that’ll help you get back into the scene.
Give Online Dating a Chance.
Some people refuse the idea of looking for love in cyberspace. When we were out to dinner one night, one of my sister-in-law’s told me how she had given it a try, and discussed the ups and downs of her WiFi experiences.
It may be because of the fact that they are not used to the technology, or simply because the whole idea isn’t something they’re comfortable with. Today, the Internet provides social networking websites that cater to online older or senior dating and these are definitely a great place to start. To begin, try looking for online sites that your friends may have used, trust and feel “at home” with. Once you’ve browsed around a bit and are familiar with how the site works, don’t be afraid to start making new connections.
Remember That First Dates Are Hardy Ever Perfect.
In order to spare yourself from possible disappointment or frustration, try not to expect too much from your first date. Take this occasion as a chance to meet someone new, and take things from there — you may want to see each other again, or you may want to keep moving forward in search of someone you have more of a spark with.
Lunch is Great Way to Start.
You may want to have your first date in a less pressured atmosphere. Instead of going out to dinner, ask your date if he or she prefers to have the date over lunch, or maybe even breakfast or brunch. These meals tend to be much more relaxed, and actually less expensive, especially if you’re going “dutch.”
Avoid Movie Dates.
Try avoiding movie dates, or any activity that doesn’t require much talking. You won’t be able to get to know each other if your attention is focused elsewhere. Try doing something that requires you to talk so that you can begin learning more about one another. Pick an activity that you’ll both enjoy – maybe take in a comedy show and see if you laugh at the same thing!
Don’t Compare Dates
Don’t compare your date with your previous relationships and/or exes as this is definitely not healthy. Imagine, meeting someone new might bring a whole new meaning to your life, and if the stars and planets are aligned quite right, you just might find yourself looking for a titanium wedding ring.
Although dating may not be the same as it was when you were in your teens, as a 30-something or mid-lifer it may initially seem like such a daunting task, but you’ll soon see that dating is both fun and fulfilling. So, when setting off on a date, make sure you leave the doubt and fear at home and, instead, approach older dating as the beginning of an exciting new chapter in your life.
If you do find that you’ve found “the one”, Valentine’s Day is around the corner and you may want to head over to Heavy Crown Jewelry. They’re a leading Tungsten & Titanium ring provider with many beautiful styles and designs. You can purchase your tungsten carbide wedding ring from them and they’ll guarantee your satisfaction – at least with the ring!

11 Ways To Drive Traffic To Your Blog
October 4, 2009 by Moomette's Magnificents (Admin)

Blogging Tips
Advice for New and Seasoned Bloggers
I belong to many forums, and one of the questions that keeps coming up consistently is how do I drive traffic to my blog?
Many work at home business artisans and mom bloggers pour their hearts and souls into blogging – night and day. Now you’ve got a great blog going with several articles and killer content. The trouble is, you don’t know if anyone is reading it besides your mom!
You feel like you’re writing to yourself most of the time and that’s not what you want. You want to get people to comment on your posts, enter your Giveaways, perhaps sell an affiliate product or make money on ads or something!
Start taking steps now to drive traffic to your blog and soon you’ll have some blog comments being posted and products being sold.
Getting traffic to a blog follows the same steps as getting traffic to a website, with a few other possibilities thrown in. Don’t concentrate on one method because traffic can, and should, come from all over.
- Pay Per Click (PPC) is a quick and easy way to get traffic to your blog. It will cost you money, and if you’ve never used AdWords before, you should research how to do if effectively so you don’t lose your bloomers.
- Interview an expert and post that interview on your blog. Most likely the person being interviewed will want to let his list know about the interview. This is a win-win because this person’s reputation as an expert will be cemented, and you’ll gain new viewers to your blog.
- Put your blog link in your signature line when you post on forums. Join forums that are in your niche and answer questions when you know the answer and can be really helpful. You are establishing yourself as the “person in the know” and they may click on your blog link to see what else you know.
- Write quality articles and submit them to article directories. Really work on your bio and link at the bottom of your articles so that targeted people can’t help but click to your site.
- Post thoughtful comments on other blogs, preferably well-trafficked ones, and establish a relationship with them. One time I did this and it lead to them asking me to be a contributing writer for their network of blogs. Talk about exposure. You can also get curious people clicking through on your link from the comments you left.
- Look for guest blogging opportunities. When you blog on someone else’s blog with lots of good information, their readers will visit your blog. I like to give bloggers an opportunity to guest post here on Moomette’s Magnificents (check out my sidebar under Guest Posts – let me know if you’re interested!)
- Similarly, cross post with another blogger. Ask them a burning question on their blog, and they answer it on your blog and vice versa. Readers will have to go to the other blog to find out the answer. I participated in a Cross Blog Conversation with Christie – at Profitable Mommy Blogging read about it here.
- Business cards are never out of fashion in the offline world. Hand them out whenever and wherever appropriate. I’ve handed mine out at craft fairs where I’d be interested in doing product reviews – you never know what opportunities will arise!
- Press releases, online or off, give you and your blog attention. Your local newspaper may be interested in the human interest aspect of your blog.
- Remember to feed the feeds. RSS, Atom, XML, Newsgator, Bloglines, MSN, AOL, etc. for syndication of your blog posts.
- MyBlogCatalog and MyBlogLog are also ways to get your posts in front of others. Your post titles will show up in widgets on other blogs in your niche so make sure the titles are compelling enough for people to want to read them.
These are just a few of the ways to drive traffic to your blog. After all, the point of your blog is not to write to yourself but to help others and possibly make some money. When you start working on your traffic you should begin to see an ever-increasing flow of it to your blog.

Charter High Speed Sweepstakes – Win a 2010 Camaro SS

Win A Camaro

My husband and I started dating when we were 18. Over the course of these 35 years, he’s had many cars. The one that we remember best is the one we had when we got married.
My then-boyfriend, now-husband had taken over the payments of his brother’s 1972 Camero. It was a 2-door, brown standard. I don’t think it had air conditioning, but it was so long ago, I don’t remember! All I know is I can’t drive a standard well, and actually drove it only a few times.
I’m short, and the seats weren’t adjustable like they are now, so I really had a tough time reaching the pedals and the clutch. When we left our reception, his friends had written “Just Married” all over it with shaving cream- papered it, and generally, just did a number on it. We actually took it to the carwash while we were still in our tux and wedding gown before we left for the airport!
Several months ago I did a post about how Charter was giving away a laptop every day for two months. Now Charter switched to giving away a brand new car – a Camaro! And not just any Camaro, the hard to get 2010 Camaro 2SS. (Sales Tax included in the prize)
The contest runs from September 15 through November 26 at noon.
In addition, you can get a $100 gift card when you buy 3 Charter services, $50 gift card for 2 services, and $25 gift card when you buy 1 Charter service!
Charter loves fast. And this new 426 hp Camaro is one of the fastest and hardest cars to get in North America, and they’re giving it away free.
Charter services have always brought your home to life, now they’re bringing your garage to life!
The Gift Cards Charter is giving away are from major retailers in clothing, home and accessories, restaurants and more!
Visit Camaro Sweepstakes to register today and to view the complete rules, specifications on the Camaro and more.
Charter continues to outpace the industry in creative and newsworthy contests from giving away an HDTV every day to Xbox 360s to a Hybrid Car last year.

Lands’ End FeelGood Donations and Twitter Party

Lands’ End
Upcoming FeelGood Twitter Party
Several years ago I was visiting my friend in New Hampshire, and as we spoke she was crocheting infant hats for the neo-natal unit at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Hospital. They were so cute – and didn’t use much yarn to make. Several could easily be made in the course of a night while watching TV.
That whole winter I occupied my time making the hats for charity, and shared the pattern with my coworkers. I sent up bags full for my friend to bring to Dartmouth.
I’d like to let you know about the Lands’ End FeelGood Campaign. This initiative is a terrific way to shop and feel good about giving to homeless individuals and families across the country. For every Lands’ End FeelGood sweater purchased, the company will donate signature FeelGood yarn to One Heart Foundation’s Warming Families, a nationwide knitting charity. Lands’ End expects to donate thousands of pounds of yarn to the charity where volunteers plan to knit up to 25,000 hats and other items to warm the homeless and displaced.
One cone of FeelGood yarn is enough to make 28 hats.
Help us spread the word about the campaign and the FeelGood collection. For every blog post about the campaign from now until September 16th, we will donate a cone of FeelGood yarn to volunteer knitters at Warming Families. One cone of FeelGood yarn is enough to make 28 hats to be donated to homeless individuals in communities across the country.
Embed Video – We’ve also created a knitting “how to” video you can embed featuring Vickie Howell, best-selling craft author and host of TV’s Knitty Gritty. It can be found on the Lands’ End YouTube channel here: Lands End.
Send a Link – Once your post is complete, please send a copy to TwitterParty@landsend.com. We will update everyone on how many cones of yarn were contributed as a result of your efforts at the FeelGood Twitter Party on September 16th.
Your Chance to Win
When you send your post to TwitterParty@landsend.com you will automatically be entered for a chance to win the FeelGood collection including two sweaters and coordinating accessories (valued at $200). Three winners will be chosen at random and contacted on September 17th.
Join Lands’ End and Vickie Howell, host of TV’s Knitty Gritty for a Twitter Party to celebrate the kickoff of the FeelGood Campaign. The party will feature more than 20 fun giveaways ranging from the FeelGood sweater and Vickie Howell’s books to Lands’ End Gift Cards and FeelGood yarn.
Date: Wednesday, September 16, 2009
Time: 7pm until 9 pm CST
Location: #landsend

Social Networking Women

Filed under Veranda Chit Chat, Web 2.0, career opportunities, e-commerce, internet marketing, networking, sahm, social networking, wahm, wahm tips, work at home

If you’re new to working from home or thinking of being a WAHM, you must be actively involved in Social Networking. I’d like to share a great article with you referencing some ideas and tips to help you work smarter while connecting and exchanging ideas. You’ll still be able to get your name out and recognized in the blogosphere while increasing your productivity and managing your time.
Social Networking Women
By Liz Lichti
If you are one of the many work at home social networking women then you know how time consuming it can be ‘tweeting’ to make potential business connections and keep up. I find too it’s hard to stay focused with all the interesting people on Twitter and links to cool sites. Fun, yes. Profitable? Not so much.
I often wonder how these people who have thousands of follows have the time to attract them let alone keep up with them. I know I have spent my share of late nights following new people, tweeting and direct messaging to feel too burned out for any kind of marketing the next day or to meet the demands of my family.
Have you noticed? It seems as though every other person on Twitter has a link in their message to increase your followers in one week, one month, 60 days, while you sleep,… and the list goes on.
Have you noticed? There are Twitter accounts that have actually generated tens of thousands of followers within an incredibly short time. They appear to be the large businesses with a staff doing the tweeting for them or celebrities who don’t even follow anyone yet have over 100,000 followers.
So, how does a smart entrepreneurial woman work from home and play in the big league without compromising her family obligations or bank account?
The solution? Good social networking software tools and by good I don’t mean those free viral, multilevel programs that everybody else is signing up for.
If you want something that works, do your research and be prepared to invest a little bit of money in a program that will not only increase your followers, but that will also teach you how to market to your new followers in a hands off, highly effective approach.
That way you can be a social networking mama and manage to do it all, make decent money and still have time for the most important things in life.
Start doing your research now, so you can start saving time. With the right program I believe you can be among the top most successful social networking women and get big league results on autopilot.
If you wish to skip the research part you can check out a product that I just happened to stumble on while, you guessed it – on Twitter!
It’s new and absolutely cutting edge and the proof is in the results. I was skeptical as always, but the people promoting it were real people like you and me doubling their followers (this is conservative) within one week and making money doing it.
Now, I’m not a die hard Twitterer, but I was impressed. I thought this information was worth my time to share it, but you be the judge. Click here to learn more.
