How Home Staging Can Help Sell Your Home Quicker

Getting Ready to Move
Spring is here and that’s when you’ll start to see all the “For Sale” signs going up around the neighborhood. Everybody wants to get the kids settled into a new home before the start of the next school year. My daughter and charming son-in-law had their house on the market for 7 months last year, but decided to take it off, stay where they are and do some home remodeling, and are considering adding vinyl siding and a new deck.
In today’s buyer’s market, Home Staging is often done when you sell your home. Staging a home can command a much higher selling price. A home staging professional can be hired to tour your home and direct you to make the changes that will increase your home’s marketability. Make sure the stager you hire is accredited.
Staging a home is not redecorating it, or improving it by adding replacement windows. Redecorating a home focuses on the seller and their personality. Staging focuses on the buyer. It provides the current home owner with the knowledge to rearrange the furnishings, pictures, accessories, etc. in the best possible manner to enhance the rooms function, appearance and balance.
The seller of a home has a strong emotional attachment and often times lacks the objectivity to know what’s best to enhance their homes looks.
In the high-end market, real estate agents will often hire a stager as part of the selling package because they may be uncomfortable disclosing to the seller that their home needs work and avoid upsetting them.
The main purpose of the staging professional is to help the buyer see themselves and their belongings fit into the home they are viewing. They do this by rearranging the home to appeal to a broad base of purchasers. Stagers can be expensive, so if you want to go it alone please follow the tips below.
The first and most important consideration to prepare your home for sale is to unclutter. Clutter shouldn’t be present anywhere in your home. Go through each room and remove any clutter you see. Hold a family swap yard sale! Organize toys in decorative boxes that are hidden away in a storage room. You can always take them out again when you don’t have any booked showings (or send them to grandmom’s house temporarily). Bookcases should be tidy and attractively interspersed with a few decorative curios. Closets should be cleaned out so that only clothes are visible. Remove storage at top and bottom of closets. Out-of-season clothing can be placed in storage. You have to move anyway and you’ll have less to pack when you do move!
Usually the foyer will provide the buyer with the first impression. It should be clean, uncluttered, bright and inviting. If any rooms are dull brighten them up with higher wattage bulbs in lamps. Remove any personal photos from all rooms if possible and replace with prints. The buyer will want to envision the home as “theirs.”
A fresh coat of paint is mandatory. Paint your home in a neutral color (white or beige is recommended). You can add a splash of color by using pillows, accessories, pillows, candles or throw rugs.
Bathrooms should be sparkling! Counters should be clear with no personal items visible. Tub tile grout should be clean and shower curtains or glass shower doors should be free of mildew. Hang fluffy, colorful towels on the towel rods.
Kitchens must be spotless. Remove all precious kiddie drawings, notes, magnets, etc. off the front of the refrigerator. Keep counter space clean and clear of all items. Clean out under sinks and organize your pantry. Paint outdated cupboards with a neutral color and put new inexpensive modern knobs on doors for a fresh look. Dishes on the floor for pet food should be eliminated during a showing.
Highlight your most attractive piece of furniture by placing on the wall you see when you enter a room if possible. Tuck away Cd’s, videos, etc. Hang pictures at eye level. Group accessories in odd numbers. Place a flower arrangement or mantle clock above the fireplace.
Clean those garages, front and backyards. Placing a potted flower pot on the doorstep or planting flowers in bloom or shrubs in the yard for a welcoming effect will improve curb appeal. Prune any shrubs you may already have. Don’t leave bikes or toys around the yard. If you have a pool, clean it. The lawn should be cut and watered to give the home a well cared for look. A coat of paint on the outside of the house may also be in order.
If you can afford a stager it is well worth the money. If not, just make sure you clean and unclutter! A spring cleaning will definitely pay off.

TeamSnap
Manage Your Team or Group Online
We’re heading into the home stretch of August, which is bittersweet to me.
Both of my daughters participated in sports such as soccer, lacrosse, and cross-country from the time they were in elementary school, and all through high school and college.
Each August during high school, their sports teams held “captains practice” week. It is the unofficial start of the Fall sports season. One year we vacationed at the Connecticut shore, which was in commuting distance of their high school. We’d pack them up from a day at the beach and drive our oldest daughter to “captain’s practice,” then back down to the shore.
I often overhear many of my co-workers speak of how they actively coach or participate in the coordination of their children’s sports activities.
If you’re such a parent, you might be interested in TeamSnap – The simplest, easiest way to manage your team or group online.
Growing at a rate of 10% a month, TeamSnap continues to add features that increase the site’s value and usefulness to team coaches, managers, participants and parents.
Highlight features include:
- Manage game and schedule events
- Track fees and payments
- Track individual and team stats
New features this fall, which will include Seasons (ability to archive and access past media and data), customizable Photobooks, and a fun affiliate program where anyone can refer TeamSnap to earn cash.

Get Organized For Back-To-School or Work: Busy Body Book – Personal & Family Organizers – Review and Giveaway
Organize Your Life
Personal and Family Grid Organizer
You would think that although my kids are grown, I no longer have to keep track of dance lessons, lacrosse or soccer games, cross-country meets and other school activities.
As chief mom (and grandmom!) around here, there’s still plenty of organizing to do.
I make notes of what days I have to pick up the grandkids from daycare; what day grandmom’s on-call to babysit when the kids go out on those Saturday night date nights; birthdays, anniversaries – you know how it goes!
Sometimes I even manage to fit in some personal time for hair appointments, manicures & pedicures!
Now that I blog , I still have to keep up with all the product review and contest giveaway schedules.
While there are pros and cons to digital organizers, in previous posts here I’ve dicussed under my work-at-home section of this blog the benefits of returning to good old-fashioned pen and paper as a means of keeping myself organized.
I’ve recently had the opportunity to review Busy Body Book planners and organizers which contain a weekly GRID format to make managing your time is a breeze!
The most efficient solution to every Mom’s scheduling chaos! Each family member, with their own personal column, can plan and track their activities while they organize and coordinate with one another “side by side.”
This organizer certainly would have come in handy when I was taking the girls to visit colleges during their junior year of high school!
Features that I like include:
- 2 Monthly Planners
- Months-at-a-glance -An overview to help plan ahead for the holidays, vacations, or special events.
- Key contact pages -2 Pages for your emergency contact information, doctors, coaches, babysitters…
- Removable shopping lists – Perforated pages for creating handy grocery or gift lists.
- 2 Pockets – Inside front & back covers provide a deep pocket to hold important papers, receipts, coupons…
- Bookmark – Easily flip to the current week with this unique bookmark that grabs the spiral.
- Notes – A full page each week for notes, to do’s, lists, or alerts. Plenty of notes pages in back of BBB too to record and keep important information.
Plus there’s a sturdy, clear plastic cover to keep it all protected!
Whether your kids are going Back-to-School or you homeschool, or you’re trying to organize and simplify your busy Work-at-Home Mom business, see how this organizer can help you save your sanity!

Here’s a Quick Way To Manage Your Business and Family Time Easily With Planners and Calendars
May 31, 2009 by Moomette's Magnificents (Admin)

Here’s a Quick Way To Manage Your Business and Family Time Easily With Planners and Calendars
Our family has a long history of entrepreneurship. My in-laws were self employed and my husband is also. Not only do I blog, I’m also the unofficial office manger for his business, so we’re always visting our favorite office supply store to pick up supplies.
Visiting the office supply store is akin to a trip to the candy store for me. I enjoy looking at the latest technology gizmos and gadgets to stay on top of our game, whether it’s for the home office or personal time management. My husband is the technophobe so I’m the one who gets all giddy. He’s so unlike his late brother who we called “professor gadget” who had to have the latest electronic wonder of the moment. My husband is of the school of thought that sometimes tried and true methods work the best and you don’t have to keep ahead of the curve or spend tons of money or be confused by technology.
People who work at home can take pride in the fact that not only are they entrepreneurs building a business that they are proud of, but are also saving money by doing so. Of course, certain specific equipment and technology is needed to help them accomplish that end result. Sometimes I feel I am over-scheduled. I have a Palm Pilot PDA, my iPhone and I use Google Calendar. On one of my most recent trips to the office supply store I visited the calendar and planner isle. I was back to that old school of thought and am now using pen and paper as well as a leather-bound Franklin Covey Day Planner.
Manage Your Time With Calendars
If you haven’t seen the new calendars lately, you should check them out! They’re unlike the flimsy pocket ones that are freebies from your insurance agent, or like the ones your mom carried in her purse. Today’s calendars have taken on new and exciting functionality and purposes.
Several calendars that I can recommend that are functional and appealing to the eye are Mom’s Plan-It and Mom’s Family Calendar by Sandra Boynton. You can record every family member’s schedule using pens and stickers. The family calendar enables you to record each family member’s activity for the month by their name.
If your kitchen is the central gathering place for the family, hang a calendar in an accessible spot for everyone to enter their weekly schedule. Family calendars can help you to coordinate both business commitments and family life. Delegate the duty of entering the information to whomever is the most responsible family member. As a WAHM you can even enter the days and hours you will be working on the family calendar to try to get some productive work time scheduled.
Manage Your Time With Planners
Planners can also be used in conjunction with a desk calendar. When broken down by hours, planners work better for business. The time slots that were listed on your family calendar can be broken down into micro project commitments in a planner. You’re never without your schedule as a planner is very portable.
Franklin Covey offers a line of planners for a variety of needs. There’s so many planners on the market today – choose yours carefully so you don’t end up with features you don’t need. Look for ones that include:
- Removable pages
- Sections for notepads or notes
- Address Book
- Places to hold business cards
- Tabs for easy look-up
- Vinyl pouches for messages, bills, etc.
Staying on top of your daily work while keeping your business straight isn’t an easy task and needn’t be expensive. Even if calendars and planners are considered so yesterday by our techno-savy kids, they get the job done and less expensively.
My motto – whatever floats your boat.

Learn How To Recognize Your Procrastination Triggers When Working At Home
March 26, 2009 by Moomette's Magnificents (Admin)
Filed under VA, Veranda Chit Chat, Web 2.0, baby boomer, blog resources, business, career opportunities, children, cooking, e-commerce, internet marketing, kids, networking, sahm, social networking, twitter, wahm, wahm tips, work at home

Up north, we Yankees take a particular hankering to sayings. One of my favorite’s is “The devil is in the details.” On that rare occasion when I’ve anticipated thinking that some free time was going to be available for myself, I’ve gotten a rude awakening.
For example, when the kids were younger there was a holiday in February where I would have the day off from work, yet the kids would be in school. Then ~ wham, a snow-day. That was the end of my productivity.
Although my kids are grown now, a new twist occurs ~ I have the day all planned out and then ~ the daycare provider calls out sick. I end up having to put out fires for the day, and the VA work I had scheduled ends up piling up.
When work piles up, procrastination can rear its ugly head. That in turn has me thinking that rather than being a WAHM, I should be out shopping or at least playing with the grand-kids. In reality, procrastination in essence means that you are having a hard time trying to balance work as well as your family. You compensate by saying that a little extra time with the kids or grand-kids is quality time well spent, however the lack of structure on your part can easily cripple your productivity.
Continually taking time off from your work at home job to spend time with family may seem like you’re giving yourself a mental health day, however that mindset will keep you in the procrastination mode.
Here’s some ways to recognize the symptoms and get the monkey off your back:
1. Staring at the piles of paper or product reviews that need to be done won’t get you anywhere. You know you would like to be productive yet downtime is essential for your well being. Between ending a project and starting a new project, take the time to give yourself an “Atta-Girl.” Politicians do it all the time. Perhaps you won’t be able to spend the afternoon at the spa, but you can certainly spend an hour or two doing something you like such as baking your favorite dessert or taking the kids or grand-kids to a museum. Just recognizing that you don’ t have to rush head-on into the next big thing waiting on your desk will release the pent-up pressure while acting as an incentive for working more efficiently and encouraging time management.
2. A messy desk may be the sign of a savant but savants don’t necessarily get the work done. Clutter can actually be detrimental to working because you don’t want to face the mail and associated paperwork. Start by utilizing a structured filing system to organize your business. If you are in the middle of a project-diary ahead to finalize it. With a clean slate and desk you’ll feel refreshed and ready to sit down and get to the tasks at hand.
3. The sun is shining and the birds are chirping – the garden weeds are calling your name. Any suggestion of household chores or anything slightly fun that has the ability to distract you will force you out of that chair and away from work. Recognize your procrastination triggers. If weekend productivity is a trigger, it may be best to schedule throughout the week for business and leave the weekends open for family fun. The gleeful sounds of your children or grandchildren playing may also be distracting so choose your office space carefully in order to filter out other sounds when your home office is open for business. Don’t set yourself up to fail.
Everyone is vulnerable to the call of procrastination. Striking a balance in your home and workplace and recognizing your triggers are two ways to keep that monkey off your back.

Since I’ve started blogging as a WAHM, things have changed with the speed of light. Twitter has taken off as the new Web 2.0 social networking site.
Best described as a micro blogging platform, each time you tweet an update you’re limited to 140 characters. Soon you’ll become a Twitter addict like me, and as you become more experienced, you’ll easily become amazed at just how much you information you can fit into such a small space. You even begin to think in terms of 140 characters!
I’ve once tweeted that I consider Twitter to be one huge global online education classroom.![]()
The power of Twitter lies within building established relationships. Simply put, many people don’t care what you do until you have built a relationship with them as a result of following.
Although I try to stay “in the loop” during the day when I’m away from my computer and do tweet from my iPhone, there are certain limitations. For example, I’m not able to include links to blog posts or Bonanzle sales that I would like to keep within my tweet stream. I frequently hold Contests and Giveaways on Moomette’s Magnificents Reviews.
Since I also have a Virtual Assistant website, I maintain a separate Twitter account for that business, rather than use my blogging Twitter name.
What I’ve discovered is that Tweet Later Pro is an excellent platform to help me achieve those means. With Tweet Later Pro, you can
- Schedule tweets across all your twitter accounts
- Send DMs to all your followers
- Improve your productivity on Twitter
- Manage multiple Twitter accounts on one single page
- Keep your Facebook, MySpace and other social accounts up to date by scheduling updates via the Tweet Later Pro Ping.fm module
Using the Twitter productivity tools, you can quite easily stay on top of your game and manage your time more constructively in order to work on blog posting and develop social networking contacts!

Cozi ~ Free Family Organization Online Management

Do you ever feel that your life is out of control? As a wife, mom and grandmom, I know I do. Trying to coordinate family events and personal schedules ~ not to mention financial due dates of bills, can get overwhelming.
At one time I thought I had this issue all wrapped up and in the bag. I had an online calendar software on my PC where I could enter the information; color-code everything and hit the “Print” button and voila ~ I had a calendar to place on the fridge.
Murphy’s Law went into effect and took care of my then-perfect little system. When I got a new computer, the software wasn’t compatible, and the company went out of business. I haven’t been able to find a similar replacement for the calendar system since that time.
Families today are busy–we have so much to keep track of including appointments, play dates, birthday parties, sports and other family activities, not to mention the challenges of coordinating home and work schedules. It can quickly get hectic without a central place to organize, coordinate and keep track of so many important household details. In fact, in a recent survey conducted by Cozi, 40% of the 4,169 households surveyed admitted to using sticky notes to manage their family activities!
Introducing Cozi a FREE web service that helps busy families manage crazy schedules, track shopping and to do lists, organize household chores and stay in communication, all in one easy-to-use solution. Cozi not only provides a shared family calendar, but also includes

- Mobile phone access and
- A family journal.
You’ll also be able to send a quick note or reminder right from your Cozi family home page to keep everyone on track. You don’t even need a cell phone to send text messages.
“In addition to the ways that moms can get their shopping lists and calendars already on any mobile phone via text message and using our toll free number, Cozi now has a mobile version especially for the iPhone and Windows Mobile phones. Families can now sign-in and access their Cozi account using their mobile web browsers. They can add and edit shopping lists and view and edit their family calendar using the mobile version of Cozi right from their iPhone. This is a new feature! You can learn more about it HERE
Imagine ~ the ability to communicate schedule updates to family members at home, work, or school.
Since today’s moms (and Grandmoms!) are so technologically connected ~ with Cozi, we can get shopping lists and schedules on any mobile and everyone in the family has access to the same information. Cozi even syncs with Outlook.

5 Ways to Manage Your Time While Working at Home Online
October 30, 2008 by Moomette's Magnificents (Admin)
Filed under Veranda Chit Chat, baby boomer, blog resources, career opportunities, e-commerce, family, internet marketing, social networking, wahm, wahm tips, work at home

I’m lamenting that I started this week out with very good intentions, as I’m sure so many of us do. I had the whole week planned for creating an upcoming Blogoversary Post, downsizing and offering sales at my Moomette’s Magnificents eBay store, and somewhat belated fall housecleaning.
However, family responsibilities and visiting family and grandkiddos seemed to take over and my good intentions got side-blinded. Not to mention that I got a flu-shot, and appear to have come down with the blah’s from whatever illnesses are going around. The perils of working at home!
There are many ways to manage time while working online. The computer, Internet, and various other types of activities that can be pursued while working may prove to be quite overwhelming when it comes to time restraints or deadlines. If your income is dependent upon the financial success that you achieve online, it is absolutely imperative that you take the time to ensure that you are maximizing each and every minute of your working time.
Productivity is an extremely important element to the overall success of an online business. In order to reach a high level of productivity, time management skills are a must for every home business owner. Here are five ways to help manage your time while working online in turn boosting your productivity and hopefully income.
One of the first methods you can implement to manage your time is reducing the amount of time spent on the telephone. One of the biggest time restraints that individuals experience are telephone calls. It is quite easy to experience a severe time lapse while working due to unexpected calls, long conversations, and even calls that are necessary for the overall functionality of your business.
One way to manage this aspect of your time is to turn off the ringer and purchase an answering machine or subscribe to voice mail. Then, you should set aside a time each day to check your messages and return calls as appropriate.
The next way that you can manage online work time is to avoid the act of constantly checking email. Just like the phone, this can take up a lot of your time. You should set aside small chunks of time on a daily basis where you can go through your email and respond when needed.
For the average eight hour work day, it’s recommended that you set aside up to four intervals of fifteen minutes a day to handle the task of dealing directly with email. While this may seem like an awful lot of time at first, you will find that it actually saves you time in the end.
Do you work at home? Do you have children or grandchildren? If so, you may consider setting up a schedule in a way that works well with the schedule of your partner. This way, your partner can contend with the kids and you can focus on your work instead of sitting down to work and getting interrupted after 5 or 10 minutes. If this is not possible, you may consider implementing the services of a babysitter, daycare or mommy’s helper a few days a week. This way, you aren’t neglecting your business or your family.
If you want to learn ways to manage your time while working online from home, it’s important to express to family members, friends, and neighbors that you work at certain times and it is important that you are able to maintain a sound level of productivity while working. Come up with times that these individuals may call you to chat or come by for a visit.
Although not always intentional, these friends and family will end up testing you initially and drop by and call anytime. However, if you let them know it is not acceptable and set up appropriate times for these activities, you will find yourself getting more accomplished during these times.
The last way for you to better manage your working time is to take breaks. Believe it or not! You may not believe that by taking a break you can actually increase your overall productivity, but it’s quite true! Why do you think employers allow their employees to take small breaks?
It allows the employee to experience a short time of relaxation and also provides them with the opportunity to refresh! You can experience this too, so be sure to work in those breaks and take them – you can always finish what you started when you get back!
Clearly, there are a number of ways to successfully manage your time while working at home online. Sometimes, all it takes is a little creativity and persistence to come up with successful time management techniques. Here’s to a better organized and more profitable online working environment.

Womens Health ~ Avoid A Meltdown ~ Develop a Stress Support System
October 7, 2008 by Moomette's Magnificents (Admin)
Filed under Veranda Chit Chat, health, internet marketing, social networking, wahm, womens health, work at home
Support System

As I’m working on Product Reviews for my Moomettesgram’s Musings blog, the 6:30 National news is on the television in the background. I overheard how women are now experiencing stress at alarming levels due to the state of the current economy.
Ironically, I was already covering this topic in two previous blog posts here and here.
Moms are a crucial part of the family network. We always joke that if mom gets ill, the family would crumble. That may not be far from the truth. So, mom, who do you turn to in times of stress to keep from crumbling?
A support system is important for busy moms. It’s easy to get weighed down by doctor’s appointments, work deadlines, family obligations, and housework. Hanging across the bed crying your eyes out is usually a sign to activate your stress support system.
A mom’s stress support system consists of her circle of acquaintances, family, friends, and professional associations. Anyone that is willing to stand in the gap for you when you need something becomes a part of the system. In turn, you are a part of that system for someone else.
Start with your family. They are the system’s first line of defense. When mom gets overloaded, family members will notice first. Their radar will go off before anyone else’s. Don’t be afraid to ask your spouse to wash the dishes or help with homework because you need a minute to yourself.
Children are particularly sensitive to changes in the home. Watch for subtle changes in their behavior, or discuss any issues you may have with their teachers.
Your other family members are a part of the system. My sisters-in-law are my best female friends. We can talk and laugh when something is bothering us. We might not come up with a solution but the laughter reduces the stress. It’s nice to be understood and have some ice cream when you’re down.
Professional associations are important to the stress support system, too. If the source of the stress is a legal matter, a lawyer can help you to see your way clear to a solution. If you feel you can’t afford one, legal aid services and other social agencies are available. Check with your local place of worship for assistance. The same goes for a good mechanic, doctor, hairstylist, and educator. It’s amazing how much easier stressful situations are to handle when you have professionals at hand who you can lean on … and trust. Your car breaks down? No problem. Just call your trusty mechanic. Kids have a toothache? No worries ~ your friendly dentist will save the day. Stress comes from the most unlikely places so your support system needs to include as many different sources of help as you can find.
I have also found answers on the Internet on message boards, when I’ve been stressed and needed help. Moms have many websites that cater to them and their special needs as working mom or stay at home mom. You may never meet these other women in person, but a close bond can be formed across the digital highway. Your closest friend could be in cyberspace. I’ve made many wonderful friends on Twitter. There’s nothing wrong with that. Turn to them if you need to talk. You don’t have to go it alone. Need a friend? Follow me on Twitter!
A support system is crucial for stress management. If you don’t have one, start recruiting today. Moms can always use the extra support.
