Connecticut Tornado
Connecticut may be known for their hurricanes, but one doesn’t usually associate us with Tornados. But they do happen.
The most famous tornado to hit Connecticut in recent memory was the one that hit Windsor Locks on October 3, 1979. I remember that day very well, when the sky turned black as night.
The picture above is the church steeple of Corpus Christi Church in Wethersfield, Connecticut, which was damaged on June 26, 2009 that the National Weather Service recently said was an F1 tornado.
Nothing was spared, as you can see.

Tornados are scary, I never would have thought you’d have them in CT! I’ll stay out here in California with my earthquakes and hope we don’t fall in the water.

Oh, what a sad thing to see. I live in Arkansas and we see tornadoes a lot here. It’s always amazing the amount of devastation left behind afterward!

Oh no! I am in the South. I grew up on the Gulf of Mexico where hurricanes come all too often, and am now in Arkansas where tornados come all too often. So, I totally can relate. I hate that the church was ruined, though.
Happy WW from Sara @ The Mostly Wordless Wednesday H.Q.!

That’s crazy! Although I find it kinda funny that only that one piece is bent over. I was expecting a picture of total destruction from a tornado.

I’ve been in a few tornadoes in my time, since I’m from Ohio. I watched one go overhead when I was about 14, and didn’t have sense enough to go inside!

Tornadoes in the east coast are pretty rare aren’t they? I grew up in the midwest and we had tornadoes all the time.

My best friend lives in Wethersfield. Her home was spared – just some fence damage. She said the hail was horrific and it came up on them so fast she had barely gotten the kids out of the neighbor’s pool before it was upon them. I wonder what her car looks like after all that hail? Hmmm – forgot to ask her about that one.

Hurricanes are a way of life here in Texas and the occasional tornado but we do escape the really cold and the dangerous snow etc.

Tornados are not fun. Florida is known for hurricanes too, but a lot of the time, tornados like to join in as well. Happy Wednesday!

We used to live in Cheshire and now live in Central Florida. We are used to getting tornado warnings down here now, but couldn’t believe it when my husband’s daughter (who still lives in Cheshire) told us that you all had a tornado up there. I was so glad when I came upon your post so I could see a pic. I can’t believe it…. hope everyone in your family is safe, all ours is safe and sound!!

The north east is starting to see more tornadoes over the past 10 years. Its very weird and scary. Now I live out west and deal with earthquakes. I have not decided which I prefer yet.
