Facebook Navigation Updates
In order to provide a more consistent experience, Facebook has done away with the tabs that were prominently positioned in the middle of the top of your business page (fan page). The navigation has been moved to the left where it is for personal profiles. This guide will help you make the most of the changes.

As a blogger, you should be using social media to gain more exposure for your blog. In my continuing Facebook Tutorial Series, I’ve covered how to set up a Facebook account, use top friends, applications , set up a fan page for your blog, and page updates. Today I am covering how to manage the new updated page navigation system for Facebook.

Supplies Needed:

  • Facebook account with an upgraded business page

Step 1: Get familiar with the changes

Look around and get familiar with the new changes. You probably noticed the “Admin View” link under “Wall”. The “Admin View” is very important as it allows you to view the wall posts in chronological order.

Tip: One reason this may not be popular is it makes the navigation less prominent and increases the likelihood that the links could be below the fold (the part of the screen that’s visible without scrolling). What you could do is reduce the height of your business page’s profile picture. That would move the menu up higher on the page. Another option would be to add wording at the bottom of the profile picture that points visitors to the menu below i.e. the word “Navigation” and a down arrow.

Step 2: Edit/reorder your pages

If you have more than seven pages, you will have a link that says “More” at the bottom of your menu. If so, you can click that link to reorder the pages.

Once you click on More, you can drag and drop your pages to reorder them. Wall and Info will still appear at the top.

Step 3: Rename any 3rd party apps you wish to change the name on

One good thing about the new navigation is that the app names can be longer than before. To rename a 3rd party application name, click on Edit Page on the right side.

Click on Apps in the menu on the left.

Click on “Edit Settings” beside the App you wish to rename.

Enter the new name then click on OK.
