Shore Line Trolley Museum | Connecticut | Electric Railroad

If you’re looking for fun things to do in Connecticut with the kids or grandchildren, look no further than the Shore Line Trolley Museum in East Haven!

This non-profit museum maintains several collections or railroad cars which preserve the heritage and history of the bygone days of the Trolley Era.

Connecticut Historic Museums

Along with almost 100 vintage transit vehicles, the museum owns nearly 30,000 photographic images, over 4,000 books and documents and approximately 1,000 small artifacts including tokens, hat badges and ticket punches.

Clang, Clang, Clang went the trolley! Ding, Ding, Ding went the bell! Even my own hometown had trolleys, and one of them is represented here!

As a CTVISIT Ambassador I hope you’ll plan your next visit or long Columbus Day weekend here and turn your day trip or staycation into an educational family field trip!

Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the shoreline salt marsh views while seeing wildlife such as a majestic Osprey.  Mom, Dad, the kids, grandchildren, Grandmother and Grandfather can enjoy a journey back in time that won’t be forgotten! The children can help the Motorman prepare a trolley for the trip.

The Shore Line Trolley Museum  is staffed by over 100 dedicated volunteers and is a working museum.

Some of the vintage historical trolleys you’ll be able to see include:

  • Connecticut Company 1602
  •  New Orleans Public Service 850: The Streetcar Named Desire
  • Johnstown Traction Company 357
  • Connecticut Company 775
  • Georgia Power Company 948
  • Work Cars
  • Toronto Transit Commission sweeper S-36

The Shore Line Trolley Museum is open on Saturdays and Sundays in September and October 10:00am-5:00pm (closed weekdays except for special charters). Trolleys depart on the half hour with the first leaving at 10:30am and the last at 4:30pm for trips down the historic Branford Electric Railway.
